Broken headlight leads to chase and arrest

/

A Covington man was arrested Feb. 15 after leading Covington Police Department (CPD) on a vehicle and foot chase.

According to his report, CPD Officer Matt Holbrook was patrolling on Emory Street in the area of Stone Mountain Street when he noticed a car with the headlight out and attempted to stop the vehicle.

After Holbrook activated his emergency equipment, the vehicle began to slow down before quickly accelerating to approximately 55 mph in a 35 mph zone. The vehicle reportedly passed another vehicle while going up a blind hill. According to the report, Holbrook continued to follow the vehicle toward the intersection of Lunsford Circle and Emory Street. At Lunsford Circle, the vehicle reportedly slowed to around 40 mph, ran the stop sign and made a right turn onto Lunsford Circle.

According to the report, the vehicle stopped on Lunsford Circle and the driver, identified as Michael Floyd, 36, jumped from the vehicle and ran. Officer Holbrook reportedly ordered Floyd to stop and show his hands. Floyd then stopped and got on the ground.

Floyd reportedly had an outstanding warrant. He was arrested on the warrant and also on charges of fleeing and attempting to elude, driving while suspended, a headlight violation and reckless driving.
