This is a story that deserves much introspective thought and observation.

It is a situation which could have escalated into a tragedy for all involved, in so many ways. The youth's family, the community, the citizens of Newton County, should applaud the efforts and professionalism exhibited by Sheriff Ezell Brown's team of officers.

No one wants to see any officer injured performing his sworn duties. Judging by the photo, I can only assume the youth was Black.

Thank God the officer involved used his best judgement and did not fire his weapon. I have seen, heard and read too many similar accounts with disastrous results.

I wish the officer a speedy recovery and thank him for preserving an immature boy's life while risking his own wellbeing. Newton County's image is brighter because of this report.
