Swingin' on the Square

The Swingin' Medallions perform in Covington

Covington got a double shot Friday night as the Swingin' Medallions performed its 1966 hit songs, and plenty of others in front of the Covington Historic Courthouse.

The Greenwood, South Carolina band performed for two hours, finishing with their chart-topper "Double Shot", and getting people out of their seats and dancing in the streets.

The medallions played plenty of 1960's hits as hundreds gathered in the Square for the event, some setting up their chairs more than three hours before the 7 p.m. start.

The show was the first of four summer evening Concerts on the Square presented by the Arts Association in Newton County. Jorge Alvarez and orchestra Nova Sound will take the stage next, Friday July 11.
