COVINGTON, Ga. – The completion date for the Highway 36 Henderson Mill Road intersection is still set for Aug. 31; however the work will not be completed by that time, according to a statement to The Covington News from Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) District Two Communications Specialist Kyle Collins.

“The work will not be completed by the end of August,” he said. “We don’t have an accurate completion estimate at this time.”

The $1.9 million job went to Knight and Associates Inc. and they continue to be the prime contractor.

“They are over 50 percent behind the anticipated progress schedule at this stage,” Collins said. “Georgia DOT project management has worked with all parties involved to speed up the progress.”

Collins said once the Aug. 31 passes, Knight and Associates Inc. will be “penalized within contract parameters for not having various pay items done.”

“The department isn’t pleased with the progress or lack thereof and continues working at the area, district and state construction office level to get things moving,” he said.

Do you know when this will be finished? NEVER. Traveling up north, the workers work, rain, shine, snow, sleet, ice. If they didnt they wouldnt be able to work but about six months out of the year. Weather does not phase them at all.
The simple fix that could have been finished in one week would have been to block Steele Road at Henderson Mill. Build a road from Steele to Mabry cul de sac. SIMPLE ANSWER. Then you would have had a safe, four way stop at 36 and Henderson Mill. DUH~!

Don't have much hope in the road widing and traffic circle at US278 and Hwy142.....3 years predicted for a bridge, the circle and widen 2 miles of road. I could get some cub scouts and tinker toys and do it faster than that....but then the DOT guys in charge of the project don't go home that way

It would have cost less and taken less time to install a traffic light at the intersection

And since this article was published there has been not a single worker on the site until today. What in the world is going on? Hey DOT fire the current incompetent contractor, due your homework, and hire one that can get this dangerous intersection finished because right now it is even more dangerous than ever before with huge drop offs on the shoulder and orange barrels blowing around in the road that I have had to stop and remove myself on numerous intersections. Get it right!!!

I sure hope Knight and Asso are not in charge of the BIGGER project of the US278 bridge, adding two more lanes and the roundabout at Hwy142....that is scheduled(ridculously) to be 3 year project....if so look for completion in2022

Please wait ...
