Porterdale Gym design could be compromised
Because of budget constraints and newer building codes the Porterdale Gym renovation may have to include compromises differing from the original concept of a community gathering place previously approved by the Porterdale City Council.

Members of the Porterdale City Council met with Newton County Engineer Kevin Walter, County Commission Chairman Kathy Morgan, District 5 Commissioner Tim Fleming and representatives of engineering consulting company, LPA Group Incorporated, to see a first glimpse of the proposal for a signalized intersection at Ga. Highway 81 and Crowell Road.

Porterdale seniors get a place to meet
Although the group is still trying to decide on the perfect name, senior citizens in Porterdale now have a place to meet for fun and fellowship every other Thursday.




Porterdale approves interim city manager's work contract
The Porterdale City Council narrowly approved (3-2) the contract for an interim city manager at the regular monthly meeting Monday.




Porterdale begins community assistance program
During the holidays, Porterdale City Council member Linda Finger led an effort to equip a family of five with items that would improve their quality of life. She enlisted the help of other city residents and together they were able to provide a washer, dryer, stove and a fully stocked refrigerator to the family with donations.




Jimbo’s Grill at the Mill closed
Popular Porterdale restaurant Jimbo’s Grill at the Mill has been closed for more than a week after financial and legal issues reportedly forced owner James Stalvey Jr. to close the establishment temporarily.

Porterdale has a new community garden thanks to more than 100 volunteers who attended Hands On Newton’s third annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service celebration Monday.
