Just a thought: Lord, you take over

Isn't it true that we spend most of our time operating in our own strength and power? When was the last time you said, "Lord, You take over…" and wasn't it after you had given it your best and your best wasn't good enough to get it done. We often fall into the trap of thinking "This is what I do, and I will do it…Spiritual and impossible things are what God does and when I need help with those things I'll turn to Him." But just as it was for Peter, it is for ...

Rasmussen: Do not be afraid — this is expected

Meriam Yahia Ibrahim. Have you heard that name? On May 11th of this year she was convicted of apostasy and adultery. What had she done? Well, she was a Christian, having been raised by her Christian mom. But since her dad was a Muslim, even though he had been absent, since he was a Muslim – her being a Christian was apostasy. And then, she married a Christian and got pregnant. And since she was supposed to be a Muslim, and he wasn't a Muslim man, that's adultery. The Sudanese government gave her three days to reject the Christian ...

5 reasons we need camp meetings now more than ever

Each summer I do something odd by most American standards: I spend one week with my extended family, we sleep in a crowded cabin with no air conditioner and we go to worship services three times per day - alongside of hundreds of others - in an open air structure with a sawdust floor. The songs we sing were written long before I was born and the sermons last much longer than 15 to 18 minutes.

Ghanaian missionary staying in U.S. to start revival

Saul was an ordinary guy who went out to look for lost donkeys. He didn't have any expectations of being a king, nor did he set out to be king of Israel. All he wanted was to find his father's lost donkeys and go back home, but not only were the donkeys found, Saul ended up being king of Israel (1 Samuel 9:1-27; 10:1-24).

Just a thought: What will you do?

One of the greatest questions ever asked in response to hearing the Word of God… "What should we do then?" (Luke 3:10) To the believer who is already walking with God: Remember salvation is not turning over a new leaf, it is about living a new life. This affects all areas of your life - spouse, children, parents, work, giving and serving. Don't just talk about the benefits of salvation; live them. To those who are still in need of coming to Jesus - Repent! Turn from your sin and self efforts (Eph. 2:8,9) and trust in Jesus ...

Living ‘Under Grace’

"Sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace" (Romans 6:14). Nearly 2000 years ago, Paul wrote that to Christians, to people he included with himself when he said, "We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life" (Romans 6:4-5).

The work of God

Have you ever known someone whose theology was spot on, but still there was something missing? They had right theology but wrong motives or attitudes. What does this make one? Well it simply makes them one with right theology but far from God. In the Old Testament, we see this example in the prophet Jonah (more concerned over a plant that dies than over 120,000 people's souls). In the New Testament, we see it in the attitude of the older brother to the prodigal son, who doesn't rejoice over his lost brother's return but, instead throws ...

It's impossible to run

I have never met a person who was running from God, yet who didn't feel justified in doing so. However, as justified as you may feel, it is still impossible to run away from an all present God (Psalm 139:7-12).

NewRock continues to grow

Family Promise, a collaborative interfaith nonprofit which provides hospitality and social services to help restore homeless families in the Rockdale and Newton counties community to sustainable independence, has grown tremendously since it began last year.

The program is made up of multiple churches in both Rockdale and Newton counties, hence the name Family Promise of NewRock. The program started out with the magic number of 13 churches to host one week, once every quarter, but has now grown to 15 churches with three additional support churches, too small to host themselves, but provide support to other churches.

Just a thought: marriage

Marriage is hard work. It doesn't always feel like work, but let's be honest, every couple experiences tough times. So, here are a few things to consider: first, being different is OK. After all, you are two "individuals." If you were both the same, one of you wouldn't be necessary. Use your difference to your advantage by being one another's completers. Second, wives are to love and give honor to their husbands and husbands are to sacrificially love and lead their wives. Stop telling your spouse about their role and do a scriptural study of your ...

Elvis’ Bible

Elvis Presley's bible sold at a U.K. auction last week for a prodigious $94,600. The Bible was given to Elvis on his first Christmas at Graceland in 1957. He used the Bible until his death on Aug. 16, 1977. The Bible was only expected to sell for around $40,000 but interests peaked in the old Bible because of the many notes and marks made by the famous singer. These notes tell a lot about Elvis' faith and interaction with God.
