First United Methodist Church hosts festival

On May 8, Newton County will come together as a community of faith working together to "Impact Our Community." This day is about collecting for local missions. Donations of money or items will be accepted for FaithWorks, the Food Pantry, Garden of Gethsemane Homeless Shelter, Washington Street Community Center, Newton Medical Center and the Lions Club.

Pine Grove Woman’s Club celebrates 100 years

Happy 100th anniversary to the ladies of the Pine Grove Woman's Club in Mansfield. Started in 1910 out of necessity for companionship in the then vast farmland region of east Newton County, their club has survived for a century now, a rarity indeed.

The hunt is on

The Easter bunny is coming. And he's set to make several appearances, bringing fun, games, prizes and, of course, lots of candy to children. Two places in particular where you can spot him will be at the First Baptist Church Community Egg Drop and the Community Easter Egg Hunt at The Church At Covington.

More than 5,000 eggs will be dropping on American Legion Field on April 3. Registration starts at 1 p.m. and events will kick off at 1:30 p.m. All families with children 12 years and younger are welcome to the free event.

The power of a praying woman

With March being Women's Appreciation Month, it's only appropriate for Good Hope Baptist Church to have a day focused on celebrating women.

Its ninth annual Victorian Tea is this Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. And it all began with the church's first lady Stephanie Tomlinson, who said the Lord dropped in her spirit to have a social event for women after establishing a Women's Day a couple years prior.

African American Heritage Festival to be held Saturday

One Voice of Newton County is presenting its annual African American Heritage Festival on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Newton County High School's Porter Auditorium. This event is free to the public. The festival will include history bowls and classic debate competitions featuring middle and high schools from both Rockdale and Newton counties. Community invited to Ash Wednesday services

Conyers First United Methodist Church and Conyers Presbyterian Church will hold a combined special Lenten worship service and luncheon starting at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 17.
