Next month will mark the 129th anniversary of Sims Chapel Baptist Church. In the early years, the brush harbor ministry was known as Series Baptist Church. The Sims family donated property on Highway 142 in Covington and the name changed to Sims Chapel. The church has survived and thrived over the years as its people gave sacrificially.
Since 1874, the New Rocky Creek Baptist Church has continued to serve the Newton, Jasper, Butts and Putnam County area. Their mission is to exalt the Savior, equip the saints and evangelize the sinner. The 12-acre campus houses the original structure, an educational building and a multi-purpose building with eight classrooms, a nursery, fellowship hall and sanctuary. A family life center was dedicated in June, debt free.
The Rev. Canon Father Randall Allen will be installed as the third Archdeacon of the Mid-South Diocese by the Rev. W. David Epps, Bishop of the Mid-South Diocese.
