Letter: Jesus’ love is it
More than 2,000 years ago, God's precious son Jesus Christ was sent to our world for the salvation of all races and nations. Our holy and heavenly God gave everyone the chance to make the ultimate decision: to select Jesus as the Lord and Savior of our souls. It is our decision to choose Jesus. His love is it.

A broken system
Dear Editor: The system is broken. Why do I say that? Using statistical tools, we know that less than 5 percent (or .3 percent, or in the case of 6 Sigma, .3 per million) failures means that the error is random. Dear Editor: Superintendent Cox, I have the utmost respect for the position which you hold, and it is because of this respect that I am writing you. My son has been in the "Quest" program in Newton County since his third grade year. He was placed there because of his writing and artistic ability. Our oldest son was placed there because of his science and math ability.

Time for a change
Dear Editor: Statewide, 82 percent of schools passed Annual Yearly Progress in 2006-2007, an indicator from No Child Left Behind. In Newton last year, 59 percent passed. One of our three high schools passed: 33 percent. It appears that our students are not achieving adequately, according to these indicators.

 Dear Editor: I had not had an opportunity to see your paper on Friday before sending you [an] e-mail and I wish to ensure your awareness that it was a pleasure to see something worthy of the office in print about the President-elect. However, the historical nature of the election should not have had to wait from Wednesday until Friday to be noted.
Misreporting the news
Your article in Friday's edition ("GOP incumbent faces bus driver...") was most peculiar, from the headline to its lack of information on Mr. Eddie Johnson. I personally do not live in District 2, nor do I know Mr. Johnson, but I recognized a totally inept and biased article. You did publish a small "correction" on page 2 of the Sunday edition with no explanation of how your reporter left out all of Mr. Johnson's background.
