Proposed Bear Creek Reservoir scrutiny:
With the proposed reservoir nearing the construction stage, there has been no protection for the citizens'/ratepayers' protection provided by the Newton County Board of Commissioners.

Dear Editor: Seniors over age of 65 should not be paying county school taxes. We have already satisfied our duties and obligations to schools during the years of raising our own children. Deplorable action
Dear Editor: The three district commissioners who voted to retain Tommy Craig as county attorney seriously abrogated their fiscal responsibility not only to their constituents but to the county as a whole. This is not a broadside against Tommy Craig, but rather a commentary on elected officials who decided to vote for something without having all available information at their fingertips.
Feeling blessed
On Jan. 17 we buried our father. The funeral procession started at Harwell-Wheeler Funeral Home in Covington and ended at Stewart Baptist Church cemetery - 25 plus miles away. On the way, I witnessed a truly awesome sight. Everyone driving in the opposite direction pulled to the side of the road as a sign of respect and sympathy.
