You'd have to be eligible for Social Security to remember the last time a Republican sat in the Senate seat made vacant last year when Ted Kennedy died. Scott Brown is the first Republican to win the seat since Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. won it in 1946.

It always amazes us how year after year deserving individuals are honored with the R.O. Arnold Award. Newton County seems to have an abundance of civic-minded souls.
Named after "Mr. Bob" Arnold, who with his wife Florence, established The Arnold Fund, the R.O. Arnold Award is awarded to an individual who has shown significant service to the Newton County community and has lived in the county for at least five years. Past recipients and past chairs of the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce nominate and then vote on recipients.
