Depending on what state or community you are traveling through, that drive can be aesthetically pleasing or utter ugliness with billboard after billboard.
In Wednesday's paper we published a letter to the editor from Linda Bruce. In the letter she described the hurt she and her family felt as they have discovered that the Georgia Bulldog flags they had left at the grave site of her father had been stolen. The family also has seen their special arrangements destroyed.

On Sunday, Oct. 25 The News will publish its annual Men of Newton special section. Since 2005, the editorial board has selected 10 men who have significantly contributed to this community to be featured in the autumn special section.

We thought that the management issues of the Nelson Heights Community Center had been solved last week. We commended the commissioners' actions on their decision to have the Recreation Department facilitate the center.
This facility, in our opinion, should fall under the direction and guidance of the Newton County Recreation Department - we said that last week and we maintain our position.
The Covington City Council made a wise decision in approving a grant writer position for the city. There is so much federal stimulus money floating around right now that it will take a fulltime employee to keep up with what is available and to complete the necessary paperwork.
We are not happy that the government has put the taxpayers of this country into so much debt to create these funds, but it is equally wrong for our community leaders not to try to capture them if they are available.
