What are you doing on July 4th?

Newton County will be home to an abundance of July 4th celebrations this year. Oxford, Social Circle and many other communities around town will be playing host to festivals and fireworks in honor of our nations birthday.

Seussical the Musical

East Newton Elementary will bring the classic stories of Dr. Seuss to life in a musical extravaganza this weekend in "Seussical the Musical Jr." on Friday May 8 at 7 p.m. and on Saturday May 9 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Alcovy High School.

Class of 3000 LIVE makes the grade

As a parent of a 9-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl, I'm always on the lookout for activities they both can enjoy. So when I learned the Alliance Theatre was going to stage Cartoon Network's "Class of 3000," I was more than excited. After all, my kids watch the cartoon. And anything that has to do with Andre Benjamin, one-half of the musical duo "Outkast," is going to be interesting.

Speed Racer

Always prepared: Aulden Jones puts a fresh coat of paint on his Pinewood derby car as he and members of Boy Scout Pack 4511 put the finishing touches on their cars Saturday morning in the First Presbyterian Church of Covington Fellowship Hall. Pack 4511 plans to make more than 20 cars that will compete in the Pinewood Derby on Feb. 28 at First Presbyterian Church of Covington. The top three winners of Pack 4511's derby will advance to the District Pinewood Derby on March 14 in the Prospect United Methodist Church gym.

“A Christmas Carol” live at the Alliance

Scrooge is back in the Alliance's annual holiday gift to Atlanta. Now in its 19th year, A Christmas Carol has become a holiday tradition for generations of families throughout the Southeast. Atlanta's own Rosemary Newcott, the Sally G. Tomlinson Artistic Director of Theatre for Youth, again directs this lavish musical complete with holiday music and jaw-dropping special effects. Chris Kayser returns for a 16th season in his portrayal of Scrooge, setting a not-to-be-missed standard of excellence.
