Iggy, you the real MVP

After two games of seeing Cleveland put all of their money on LeBron creating offense on an island and relying on Matthew Dellavedova to "stop" Stephen Curry, we've finally seen Steve Kerr make a necessary adjustment and sit Andrew Bogut for so-far-Finals-MVP Andre Iguodala.

From the Cheap Seats

While I was in Rockdale County last night watching the Bulldogs earn their first Conyers Cup since 2008, something else was brewing in Newton County.

It’s time to get things started

It's finally here. The return of weekly rituals and traditions we hold near and dear. We're passionate about it. We socialize around it. We prepare elaborate meals for it. We argue about it. It permeates our lives throughout the fall. Finally, the new season of "The Bachelor" kicks off this week.

Another reality show with a flair for the dramatic kicks off this Thursday night as well: SEC football. Never before have I looked forward to watching a Vanderbilt game, but I honestly can't wait for Steve Spurrier's Sakerlina squad to face the Vanderbilt Fightin' Franklins ...

America’s favorite pastime

As I've spent the last five days immersed in all things Dixie Boys baseball, several things have jumped out to me as Newton County has played host to the 2012 World Series.

Prevost: Crown another SEC champ

The BCS Championship Game finally -- finally -- takes place this Monday night in the City That Care Forgot. Non-SEC fans may forget to care about this all-SEC affair as No. 1-ranked LSU faces No. 2-ranked Alabama, again, this time for the crystal ball trophy.

Ram-Tiger duel one for the ages

If you left the Alcovy-Newton game early Saturday, shame on you. You missed what will likely go down as the greatest rivalry game the county will ever see. Perhaps it's understandable if you were one of those who decided to spend the rest of your evening doing something other than falling asleep in the stands after a painfully boring first half. That's why they play two halves though.

Briggs: The BCS stayed true to form

You have a vote and you determine which team is No. 2 in the BCS standings and will play clear No. 1 LSU in the BCS title game. You have to choose between Team A and Team B.

Prevost: Who ya got in SEC title game?

For the third time in nine years, LSU and Georgia meet in Atlanta for the SEC Championship. The Tigers dominated the Dogs back in 2003 and Georgia returned the favor in 2005. What will happen in 2011, with LSU looking to cap its dominant run to the BCS title game and Georgia notching 10 wins in a row?

College football rivalries are personal

College football rivalries aren't so much defined by the results as they are feelings toward the rival. They're something obviously not everyone gets. Based on how some of the series have played out over the course of the rivalry, it's hard to imagine how fans can get up for games they know they probably have no shot at winning.

Prevost: Bold predictions for big SEC weekend

Serious Southeastern Conference football fans have had Saturday, Nov. 19 circled on their calendars. Like many of you, I've looked forward to this Saturday for weeks and can't believe it's finally here. We're in for a real treat with premier, big-time matchups, intense conference rivalries, and several non-conference battles filled with intrigue. It is without doubt the biggest weekend of SEC football all year.

Hindsight is always 20/20 for fans and the media

30 against the Tigers. The question then would be, could LSU score 31 against Oregon?

Provost: Ready for your SEC pop quiz?

OK class, it's time for an SEC pop quiz. Follow the directions closely. Using your Scantron form and a #2 pencil, fill in the bubble that corresponds with your answer. Be sure to press firmly and fill in the bubbles completely.

Briggs: College football is becoming comical

I'm not going to take up much of your time today. What I have to say won't take long. Let's talk about college football for just a minute.

Briggs: What a crazy night

Friday night was supposed to be a historic night for Newton County football. It was historic all right. History all three programs would like to erase from our memory banks.

Prevost: Will LSU-'Bama live up to the hype?

It's tough to live up to great expectations. Just ask the current occupant of the White House. Rarely are our greatest expectations met, which makes it all the more special when it actually happens.

It's not always easy playing out the string

There's nothing worse in sports than playing without a chance to win. In Newton's case, the Rams are playing the rest of their games without a chance to make the playoffs. It's for this reason I can't get into college football. One loss and you're school is looking forward to next year.
