From minority to majority

It was reported on Wednesday by multiple media outlets that former NBA All-star Chris Webber was the face of an investor group interested in buying the Atlanta Hawks. Webber could be the bright light shining through the dark cloud left by former Hawks' owner Bruce Levenson and the notorious email he sent out that started this whole process.

Briggs: The BCS stayed true to form

You have a vote and you determine which team is No. 2 in the BCS standings and will play clear No. 1 LSU in the BCS title game. You have to choose between Team A and Team B.

Prevost: Who ya got in SEC title game?

For the third time in nine years, LSU and Georgia meet in Atlanta for the SEC Championship. The Tigers dominated the Dogs back in 2003 and Georgia returned the favor in 2005. What will happen in 2011, with LSU looking to cap its dominant run to the BCS title game and Georgia notching 10 wins in a row?

College football rivalries are personal

College football rivalries aren't so much defined by the results as they are feelings toward the rival. They're something obviously not everyone gets. Based on how some of the series have played out over the course of the rivalry, it's hard to imagine how fans can get up for games they know they probably have no shot at winning.

Prevost: Bold predictions for big SEC weekend

Serious Southeastern Conference football fans have had Saturday, Nov. 19 circled on their calendars. Like many of you, I've looked forward to this Saturday for weeks and can't believe it's finally here. We're in for a real treat with premier, big-time matchups, intense conference rivalries, and several non-conference battles filled with intrigue. It is without doubt the biggest weekend of SEC football all year.

Hindsight is always 20/20 for fans and the media

Briggs: College football is becoming comical

I'm not going to take up much of your time today. What I have to say won't take long. Let's talk about college football for just a minute.

Briggs: What a crazy night

Friday night was supposed to be a historic night for Newton County football. It was historic all right. History all three programs would like to erase from our memory banks.

Prevost: Will LSU-'Bama live up to the hype?

It's tough to live up to great expectations. Just ask the current occupant of the White House. Rarely are our greatest expectations met, which makes it all the more special when it actually happens.

It's not always easy playing out the string

There's nothing worse in sports than playing without a chance to win. In Newton's case, the Rams are playing the rest of their games without a chance to make the playoffs. It's for this reason I can't get into college football. One loss and you're school is looking forward to next year.

Prevost: Deep thoughts around the SEC

With six weeks left in the regular season, it's time to reflect on the teams of the finest conference in all of college football. A just-past-midseason assessment is appropriate given that most SEC teams are off this week - or they might as well be. Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Mississippi State are off. Alabama has the equivalent of an off week against Tennessee, as does Arkansas against the menacing Ole Miss Black Bears.

There's arrogance then there's insanity

To be good at anything, you need a certain amount confidence. Of course you need talent - whether you're an athlete, a writer or whatever. Without confidence though, you can have all the talent in the world and it won't matter. To be great, you need a certain amount of arrogance.

Prevost: SEC fans prone to drastic behavior

We have five weeks of college football under our belts. That's five weeks of tailgating at stadiums across the SEC, game parties at stately southern homes and road trips from Texas to South Carolina and everywhere in between.

Prevost: The disciple takes on the mentor

It's already Week 5 of the college football season and Saturday's games take place on the first day of my favorite month, October. Comfortably cooling temperatures, clear blue skies, and five October weekends of big-time SEC match-ups, including Saturday night's clash of conference titans, Alabama and Florida.
