The Newton County Recreation 7-8 All-Star football team played in the Gridiron Bowl Saturday, Nov. 22 and beat Macon United in two blow-out games. The score of the first game was 14-0 and the second game was under the lights of Homer Sharp Stadium as Newton County won 25-0. The team played in Macon this weekend for their next tournament where they will play five or six teams in attempt to bring home another trophy. Riley Clingerman can do it with the best of them. That includes the boys. Clingerman, who signed a four-year scholarship to play softball at Emmanuel College on Friday morning, played baseball for three years at Peachtree Academy before the school established a softball team and now she is headed to college with all of the support of her school, friends and family.Clingerman is Peachtree's first signee and Peachtree plans to name their annual signing day going forward, "Riley Clingerman Signing Day."

Sponsorship of the 2014 B. C. Crowell Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament provides you and your company with an economical vehicle for advertising, as well as, supporting B. C.'s on-going commitment to the education of the youth in Newton County. On Saturday, Oct. 4, 10 of Rockdale Youth Soccer Association's (RYSA) finest will be leaving the U.S. and traveling to Haiti for a seven-day mission trip. The group will be providing soccer day camps for children, school supplies, feeding a village and many other things. RYSA needs help to collect items they will need to make this trip a success for the children of Haiti.

All good things must come to an end, and end they did for the Covington Post No. 32 A's as they exited the American Legion Southeast Regional Tournament much earlier than anticipated. Post No. 32 traveled to Asheboro, North Carolina with high hopes of a strong showing, but a pair of losses sent them packing and they were headed back to Covington by day two of the tournament.
Sydney Henderson, 12, of Covington won the 2014 National Barrel Horse Association Youth (NBHA) World Championships fourth division in Perry, Georgia that were held between July 19 - 26.
Before the American Legion baseball season even started, coach Bill Dallas had stated that one of his goals for the Covington Post No. 32 A's was to win the Georgia State Championship. Dallas and his team did just that over the weekend by defeating Albany Post No. 30 by a score of 8-3 in the championship game that was contested on Monday morning.
