Clingerman breaks the mold

Riley Clingerman can do it with the best of them. That includes the boys. Clingerman, who signed a four-year scholarship to play softball at Emmanuel College on Friday morning, played baseball for three years at Peachtree Academy before the school established a softball team and now she is headed to college with all of the support of her school, friends and family.Clingerman is Peachtree's first signee and Peachtree plans to name their annual signing day going forward, "Riley Clingerman Signing Day."

Hunting: The season is here

During this time of year bucks are still traveling in bachelor groups. In the southern zone of Georgia, hunters can bait deer, but you can't bait deer in the northern zone. Therefore, hunters rely on attractives to get deer closer. As the rut draws closer, bucks start competing for breeding rights for the does which is why urine is a good attractive. Clash of the titans

Two undefeated teams collided Thursday night at Turner Lake Division 1. The 3-0 Canes took on the 4-0 Seminoles and the Canes came out victorious, winning 22-0 over the 'Noles. Lo Palmer, Jeremiah Brennan, Jordan Nolley (QB) and Marion Eubanks all scored for the Canes. See photos.

NHS to honor '65 R.L. Cousins team

The 1965 R.L. Cousins basketball team has enjoyed a historical revival during the past year. With the rehabilitation and subsequent reopening of Wolverine Gym for use by the Newton Recreation Commission to the court dedication in honor of Jimmy Wright earlier this month, the Wolverines are finally getting the recognition they deserved more than 45 years ago. It will culminate Jan. 31 when Newton's basketball program honors the team next to its own in the rafters with a state runner-up banner ceremony.
