Down 5-3 at the top of the seventh inning, Newton 14U All-Stars climbed back into the game like Mufasa wasn't able to, tying the game at 5-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh. It was the semifinals with a chance to go on to compete against North Carolina in the championship game and Louisiana was giving Newton all they had. An error moved a runner to second and Louisiana would knock the tying run in to give them the game and a shot at the title.
The Covington Post 32 A's entered this weekend's American Legion State Baseball Tournament in Loganville with high hopes of repeating as State Champions. But Rockdale Post 77 also had aspirations of taking home the State title and did so with a 4-2 win in the Championship game on Sunday.
The American Legion baseball season has been underway since the beginning of June and the Covington Post #32 A's team has continued their tradition of winning by amassing a record of 11-2 at the mid-season point. The team is once again led by veteran Coach Bill Dallas and his assistant Coach Eddie Bagwell.

Members of the Southeast Striders Track and Field Club competed at the AAU Region 8 qualifier at Eastside High School, Taylors, South Carolina June 25th-28th. Five qualified for the AAU National Track and Field Championships at Norfolk State University, Norfolk, VA August 1st-8th.
Hit after hit, inning after inning, the Newton County Black All-Stars pounced on their Newton Red All-Star counterparts to win the Newton County training league tournament championship in a 28-17 victory.

Covington athlete Michael Mills loves challenges that some may think impossible for a man who is paralyzed below the waist. He's already known locally for competing in extreme obstacle-course races. Now he wants to set a new Guinness World Record by pulling a 5,000-pound SUV the distance of a football field-while in his wheelchair.

There's a parking lot full of cars at The Oaks course. Golf pro Gary Miller is parked behind the register in the pro shop at The Oaks. It's not Masters week yet, but it's coming sooner than Winter for Game of Thrones.
Early on a cold Saturday morning, parents took their kids to City Pond for Opening Day of the new Newton County Recreation baseball season. Kids competed for the first time from early Saturday morning to late in the afternoon.
The Masters tournament is the first week of April. The tournament, along with warm, spring weather, likely has you very excited for the 2015 golf season. The professional golfers should not be the only ones who get to have fun during the famous tournament; The Oaks is offering special golf packages for the entire week (April 4th, 2015 through April 12th, 2015) that The Masters tournament takes place.
