Q&A: Newton focused on Rockdale

Coming off a lopsided 53-0 victory against Lakeside, the Rams are in sole possession of first place in Region 2-AAAAAA after Tucker defeated Lovejoy on Friday. Rockdale is the only thing standing in the way of Newton winning its first region championship since 1987 as the two rivals are set to face-off on Friday. Newton upset at Lovejoy

In a battle of the two remaining undefeated teams in the region Lovejoy (4-4, 3-0 Region 2-AAAAAA) and Newton (6-2, 2-1 Region 2-AAAAAA) met at Twelve Oaks Stadium on Friday night in what will likely determine the region champion, and Lovejoy came away with the 20-16 win.

Taylor commits to Michigan

Today, Newton junior running back Kurt Taylor announced on Twitter that he had verbally committed to attend college and play football at Michigan University. Taylor has visited the school multiple times now, but when he went to see the Wolverines play Brigham Young three weeks ago Taylor knew right then that was the school for him as Michigan throttled BYU 31-0.

Lady Rams get shutout and shutdown in first round of playoffs

The Newton High school Lady Rams softball team (8-2 region, 8-9 overall, 2-AAAAAA) lost handedly in the first round of the playoffs to the Newnan Lady Cougars by scores of 14-0, and 12-4 Wednesday.

An ace up the sleeve

Britney Ellis' right knee popped in the third inning of a blowout against Tucker on September 24, senior night. Grimacing in pain on the brink of tears, Ellis asked for the trainer, Kelsey Ney, to take a look at it. She did. Ney worked her magic, but in order to finish the game, Ellis would have to play through the pain. And so she did.

Newton County shows cancer awareness

It's well known that cancer is a disease that is more and more common, and it's also known that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Newton County elementary and high schools do their part in awareness every year not only by wearing pink, but honoring survivors and remembering those lost.

Lady Rams score 18 runs to top Rockdale

Just a week ago when Newton and Rockdale met on the softball field at Newton it took the all the Lady Rams had and then some to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh that saw Newton score five runs to beat the Lady Bulldogs 13-12. This time the Lady Rams scored eight runs in the second inning alone leading to an 18-1 mercy-rule victory over Rockdale.

Locked in

Lamenting the 56-7 loss against Lowndes, Newton football has been humbled after a 4-0 start to the season. The loss, although no one ever wants to lose, comes at the perfect time for the Rams as it gave them something to think about during the bye week before they're set to face region foe Tucker this Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Newton reigns supreme over Tucker

The constant light showers on Thursday evening couldn't stop the Newton/Tucker contest from happening and the Tucker Lady Tigers couldn't stop the Lady Rams' offense from pouring in points as Newton drowned Tucker, 14-2 on senior night.
