Eagles fly by Tigers

Both Alcovy and Eastside have starting lineups majorly made up of either sophomores and/or freshmen. The question coming into the game was "which team's inexperience would show more?" The answer to that question is Alcovy, as their inexperience showed throughout the game where they fell 36-6 to the Eagles.

The Eastside High School softball alumni returned on Saturday for the first annual alumni game, but also to support the Wright family. James Wright was tragically injured in a car accident and left paralyzed. The proceeds of the game went to the Wright family.

Lady Eagles stay alive after 2-0 win in game two

DEXTER - On paper, Eastside didn't stand much of a chance against West Laurens in the second round of the Class AAA softball playoffs Wednesday. On the diamond, they did more than hold their own.

Lady Eagles face tough opponent in round two

Eastside softball squeaked out two close victories over Harlem last week in the opening round of the Class AAA playoffs and is rewarded with a trip to West Laurens to take on a Raider team also looking to get back to Columbus for the Elite Eight.

It's time for that Eagle pride to reemerge

The last time Eastside football lost three games in a row, Jimmie Johnson had yet to win a Sprint Cup championship, my house was still worth more than I paid for it and an up-and-coming young senator from Illinois had everyone wondering if we were ready for our first black president. After Friday's 21-3 loss to Stockbridge, that's exactly where the Eagles find themselves. It's a place no player in the program today has ever been. It's certainly a place nobody around the program thought they'd be in anytime soon.

Grounded: Eagles lose third straight

Big plays doomed Eastside again. For the second straight week, the Eagles gave up a long rushing touchdown in the first quarter, quarterback Cameron Boyd had an interception returned for a touchdown and the Eagles lost an important region game, this time falling to Stockbridge 21-3.

Local teams face slate of key games

The three high schools are all in action tonight for the first time in three weeks and while the opponents are different, the agenda is the same. Win. Certainly every football team wants to win every time out but for Eastside, Alcovy and Newton, a win tonight carries significant meaning.

Cardiac Kids

Eastside and Harlem played 15 innings of nearly flawless softball over two games in the opening round of the Class AAA softball playoffs Wednesday. Ironically, the series was decided by one miscue.

Eagles fall to Drew 28-21 for second region loss

Eastside dropped its second straight region game Saturday, putting its chance of earning the second-seed and a home playoff game in peril. Based on the way the Eagles played in their 28-21 loss to Drew, just earning a playoff berth may prove to be an accomplishment.

Eastside loses 4-0, misses region title

Eastside can't help to feel like it let one get away. That one would be the Region 4-AAA softball title and a No. 1 seed in next week's state playoffs.

Eagles look to rebound, travel to Drew

Eastside's epic battle with Sandy Creek Saturday will go down as one of the toughest losses in school history. That the eagles came to within a minute and a 76-yard touchdown pass away from knocking off the top team in the state – a feat not done in 34 games now, is of little consolation. Especially with work left to do.

Defensive woes cost Eastside in region title game

JACKSON - Eastside let a golden opportunity to win the Region 4-AAA softball title slip through its fingers Wednesday. Rather, the Lady Eagles let it slip under their gloves.

Eagles learned firsthand what it takes to be a No. 1 team

Remember the name Cole Garvin. I know everyone at Sharp Stadium Saturday night will. After ripping Eastside's heart out with one of the best throws I've ever seen a high school quarterback make to lift Sandy Creek past the Eagles 13-10 in the final minute of the game, Garvin is public enemy number one this week over at 10245 Eagles Drive. I'm sure down in Tyrone, the euphoria still hasn't worn off.

Causey's hit lifts Lady Eagles past Jackson 5-4

JACKSON - When Taylor Causey returned to Eastside's softball team two weeks ago, head coach Jason Stokes knew he was getting his staff ace back. But his team's best hitter too?

Shock and Awe

Eastside nearly took down the No. 1 team in the state Saturday. Unfortunately for the Eagles, nearly doesn't mean a thing.

Causey leads Eastside past St. Pius X

Taylor Causey's return as Eastside's ace has ignited the Lady Eagles. It may be just enough to propel them back to the state softball tournament Columbus.

East meets best

Sandy Creek may be the best high school football team in Georgia, in any classification. Eastside coaches certainly believe that.
