Eastside's Hurst on win: Don't quit

Eastside's theme for the football season is 'don't quit.' That theme couldn't have rung more truly than in Friday night's game on the road against Madison County. How it went down

For the first time in four years, this space is being used to write about Eastside in a different way. Usually it's a playoff game story. After the Eagles failed to make it to the postseason, it's about what went wrong in 2011.

Eastside teams usher in new eras

Eastside's boys' team will look nothing like it did last year when it hits the floor tomorrow at Alcovy. That's probably not a bad thing.

Going dancin'

Former Eastside soccer standout Caleb Kernan is going dancing. No, he's not making an appearance on "Dancing With the Stars". He's going to the men's NCAA soccer tournament with his Georgia State Panther teammates.

Dynamic Duo

Eastside athletics have thrived since the school dropped down to Class AAA four years ago - especially volleyball and softball. Two players in particular have been around to see it all. Amanda Hawkins and Katie Johnston both arrived on campus in 2008. Over the past four years, they've played a pivotal role in the softball and volleyball teams' success.

Eagles fall to Henry County 34-24, miss postseason

Despite all that went wrong for Eastside leading up to Friday's winner-take-all season finale at Henry County, the Eagles still had a shot at the playoffs. Late turnovers proved to be too much to overcome though and the Warhawks will be the region's fourth playoff team after a 34-24 win.

It's win or bust for the Eagles in season finale at Henry County

Eastside travels to Henry County for its season finale and the Eagles have a very simple goal. Win. If they do, they'll make a return trip to the Class AAA playoffs for an unprecedented fourth straight year. But it won't be easy.

At least Eastside doesn't have Tim Tebow

Eastside football may have its problems this year. Injuries and suspensions, a talent drain on the offensive line and a new quarterback come to mid. But at least the Eagles don't have to deal with what the Denver Broncos are going through with Tim Tebow.

Lady Eagles out after 4-0 loss

DEXTER - As has been the case in many of Eastside's recent games, especially this postseason, it came down to one inning against West Laurens in game three of the Lady Eagles' second-round playoff series. This time though, Eastside was on the short end of the stick.

Lady Eagles stay alive after 2-0 win in game two

DEXTER - On paper, Eastside didn't stand much of a chance against West Laurens in the second round of the Class AAA softball playoffs Wednesday. On the diamond, they did more than hold their own.

It's time for that Eagle pride to reemerge

The last time Eastside football lost three games in a row, Jimmie Johnson had yet to win a Sprint Cup championship, my house was still worth more than I paid for it and an up-and-coming young senator from Illinois had everyone wondering if we were ready for our first black president. After Friday's 21-3 loss to Stockbridge, that's exactly where the Eagles find themselves. It's a place no player in the program today has ever been. It's certainly a place nobody around the program thought they'd be in anytime soon.

Local teams face slate of key games

The three high schools are all in action tonight for the first time in three weeks and while the opponents are different, the agenda is the same. Win. Certainly every football team wants to win every time out but for Eastside, Alcovy and Newton, a win tonight carries significant meaning.
