Hurst leaving Eastside

According to the Rome News-Tribune Eastside head football coach Rick Hurst has been named to the same position at Pepperell High School. Hurst will finish out the school year at Eastside and will begin his tenure Pepperell at the end of the school year.

The Eastside Lady Eagles defeated Mt Zion 10-0 in a time shortened match Wednesday night at Sharp Stadium. Junior Morgan Green scored 2 goals in the first 8 minutes of the game and went on to assist on 3 more.

Eastside/Newton alumni game set for May

The annual Newton vs Eastside Alumni Basketball Game will be held on May 16, 2015. If anyone is interested, please sign up now. There also may be a softball game on July 19 depending on the interest of both schools' alumni. It will be $20 to play one sport or $30 to play both. All interested persons please email TaKeita Bell at newtoncountyalumni@gmail.com. Payment must paid by March 30th. Also please look for the event flyer floating around Facebook, NHS-EHS Alumni Basketball Game. There will be more information on the event at a later date.

Eastside soccer eyes No. 1 seed

While most of the people of Newton County have locked themselves inside their homes to avoid the cold, baseball and soccer players have been playing outside in the "wonderful" weather. Eastside soccer has started its season 0-2, but the team has yet to be at full health and head coach Champ Young isn't worried about the slow start.

Athletes of the week: 02/09

The athletes of the week for the week of February 9, are both the boys and the girls Eastside basketball teams, Imani Broadnax (Newton) and Tierra Hodges (Alcovy). Both Eastside teams put up a valiant effort during this week of region tournament games, but they were unable to get over the hump after it seemed each team had caught fire at the end of the regular season. Broadnax led Newton with 13 points against Lovejoy, helping to lift Newton to a third-straight region championship game against Tucker. Hodges scored 17 of Alcovy's 40 points despite getting in foul trouble ...

Eastside High's annual "Tase of Eastside" featured musical performances from David Clemons, Shane Willwood and Drew Park (above) at the fundraising event Saturday afternoon. The event raised $17,000 for the Eagles' Athletic Department last season. Proceeds from the event this year will go to the Eastside Athletic and Drama Departments.
