An Eastside-Heritage preseason game just wouldn't be complete without a weather delay. Mother Nature didn't disappoint again. This time though, the two teams managed to play the whole game despite a 20-minute delay for lightning in the area and it was the Patriots coming away with a 28-14 win.

Eastside alum Young returns to coach boys soccer

Former Eastside soccer standout Champ Young is coming home. After playing at Gordon College and then North Georgia College, Young returns to his alma mater as the new boys' soccer coach. Young was approved for a certified teaching position and coach last week at the monthly Newton County Board of education work session.

Eastside tabs Weir next baseball coach

Eastside has its new baseball coach. The Newton County Board of Education approved the hire of Brad Weir at Tuesday's meeting and he will take over as Eastside baseball coach in 2011-12. Weir will teach special education and also coach tight ends for Eastside's football team.

Getting defensive

In 2008, Justin Wray led Eastside to the Region 8-AAA football championship at quarterback. He won two playoff games and put Eastside football on the map. That fall, Wray switched sides.
