Off the schneid
All the Eagles needed to pick up their first win under first-year head coach Gregory Freeman was a little home cooking. It didn't hurt the Eagles played an offensively-challenged Locust Grove team too. Nevertheless, the Wildcats were just what the doctor ordered and the eagles took advantage.

For the first time in four years, this space is being used to write about Eastside in a different way. Usually it's a playoff game story. After the Eagles failed to make it to the postseason, it's about what went wrong in 2011.

Eastside's boys' team will look nothing like it did last year when it hits the floor tomorrow at Alcovy. That's probably not a bad thing.

Former Eastside soccer standout Caleb Kernan is going dancing. No, he's not making an appearance on "Dancing With the Stars". He's going to the men's NCAA soccer tournament with his Georgia State Panther teammates.
Dynamic Duo
Eastside athletics have thrived since the school dropped down to Class AAA four years ago - especially volleyball and softball. Two players in particular have been around to see it all. Amanda Hawkins and Katie Johnston both arrived on campus in 2008. Over the past four years, they've played a pivotal role in the softball and volleyball teams' success.
Eagles fall to Henry County 34-24, miss postseason
Despite all that went wrong for Eastside leading up to Friday's winner-take-all season finale at Henry County, the Eagles still had a shot at the playoffs. Late turnovers proved to be too much to overcome though and the Warhawks will be the region's fourth playoff team after a 34-24 win.
It's win or bust for the Eagles in season finale at Henry County
Eastside travels to Henry County for its season finale and the Eagles have a very simple goal. Win. If they do, they'll make a return trip to the Class AAA playoffs for an unprecedented fourth straight year. But it won't be easy.
At least Eastside doesn't have Tim Tebow
Eastside football may have its problems this year. Injuries and suspensions, a talent drain on the offensive line and a new quarterback come to mid. But at least the Eagles don't have to deal with what the Denver Broncos are going through with Tim Tebow.
Nice debut
For the first time in almost a month, Eastside looked like, well, Eastside.

What was supposed to be a quiet bye week for eastside turned out to be anything but. It's been a tough season for the Eagles and after last week, it got even tougher.

DEXTER - As has been the case in many of Eastside's recent games, especially this postseason, it came down to one inning against West Laurens in game three of the Lady Eagles' second-round playoff series. This time though, Eastside was on the short end of the stick.

DEXTER - On paper, Eastside didn't stand much of a chance against West Laurens in the second round of the Class AAA softball playoffs Wednesday. On the diamond, they did more than hold their own.
Lady Eagles face tough opponent in round two
Eastside softball squeaked out two close victories over Harlem last week in the opening round of the Class AAA playoffs and is rewarded with a trip to West Laurens to take on a Raider team also looking to get back to Columbus for the Elite Eight.
