On July 22, it was reported that 12-year-old Johnny Tolbert, from south Fulton County, Georgia had brain damage after suffering a heat stroke during football practice at Welcome All Park. He reportedly collapsed around 7:30 p.m. during conditioning drills while it was 90 degrees outside, according to a report on WSB-TV.
Eastside athletics has had a great spring. The men's track and field team won its first ever state title, and the baseball team had a Final Four finish in the state playoffs following an exciting season.
The Eastside Eagles baseball team's storybook season came to an end on May 16, when it was defeated by No.1 ranked Buford Wolves in the Class AAAA Final Four of the State Playoffs. This was the Eagles' first trip to the Final Four since moving to Class AAAA.
Former Eastside soccer player Tara Harrison graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) on May 6, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with a Major in Management. She was named to the Fall 2015 Dean's List during her senior soccer season.
For three former Eastside Eagle softball players, their on-field careers are quickly approaching the final inning. Four years ago, Eagle teammates Amanda Hawkins, Taylor Causey and Erin Steele were seniors looking forward to their 2012 graduation day and nervously anticipating what awaited them in the fall when they would each begin playing softball for their respective colleges. Each had already celebrated their accomplishment of receiving a college scholarship earlier in the year with a signing day ceremony surrounded by family, friends, coaches and teammates.
