We've done a year in review of spring sports in the summer, so now it's time we look at some of the best and biggest moments in Newton County sports for the second half of 2014. On Friday night, the Alcovy Tigers basketball team welcomed South Gwinnett to town. Going into the game, Alcovy was looking to get its first win of the season. Despite Alcovy playing with outstanding effort, once against they came up short, losing 64-54.
The Lady Tigers of Alcovy got their first win in region 2-AAAAAA this season on Friday evening. It wasn't an easy one by any means, as the Lady Wildcats of Lovejoy gave them all they could handle. But, Alcovy fought it out, and displayed some toughness with a 51-46 win over Lovejoy.
Alcovy's Lady Tigers are 2-3 on the season. One of those wins came against a now 5-1 Marietta team the Lady Tigers beat Novermber 21, 58-53, that advanced to the second round of state last year. Lady Tigers' coach David Baker speaks about the win and his team in this Q&A.
Aubree Thacker, now a former Alcovy softball second baseman, signed her letter of intent to play softball at Emmanuel College on Wednesday afternoon at Alcovy in front of an overwhelming number of friends and family who came out to support her.
