Johnson becomes a Wildcat

A flock of family and friends gathered in the commons area of Alcovy High School to watch Kalia Johnson sign to the University of Kentucky. It's been Johnson's dream to play in the SEC for as long as she could remember, which is why Johnson verbally committed to Kentucky her sophomore year. That dream became a reality on Friday afternoon.

Alcovy sputters against Rockdale

A win and Alcovy would've clinched the No. 4 seed in Region 2-AAAAAA, but the Tigers weren't able to overcome a struggling Rockdale team and fell to the Bulldogs 25-6. The Tigers are now in a three-way tie with Rockdale and Lakeside for the last spot in the playoffs with the tiebreaker going to Lakeside. Alcovy could still get in with an upset over Lovejoy and both Rockdale and Lakeside losing.

Alcovy gets dominated at home

The Alcovy Tigers (1-7, 1-2 region, 2-AAAAAA) hosted a conference game against the Tucker Tigers in what turned out to be a rout, full of big plays. Tucker defeated the Alcovy Tigers 58-0 in what was a mismatch of talent.

The streak is over

The Alcovy Tigers (1-5, 1-0 Region 2-AAAAAA) get their first win of the season in a region matchup against the Lakeside Vikings (3-3, 0-1 Region 2-AAAAAA). The Tigers had not won a game since Friday November 01, 2013. With a 15-12 victory over Lakeside, Alcovy won its first game of the season.

Alcovy seniors shine on senior night

For three of Alcovy's players, Tuesday night would be their last regular season home game at Alcovy. Ricki McKnight, Raven Smith and Kalia Johnson suited up for their home regular season finale against rival Newton no less, and prevailed with a 6-1 victory.

Hammonds improvement boosts Alcovy

The higher up you get in the sports world, the less likely you are to play multiple positions. It's even less likely that you have to switch from one position to another, although it does happen on occasion. In high school players switch positions all the time, as size plays a huge factor as to how coaches use certain players.

Tigers upset bid falls short

On a damp field with the weather in the mid-60s, Alcovy, looking for its first win in 17 games, gave the 2-2 Lamar County Trojans a huge scare late, but penalties and turnovers plagued the Tigers as they fell to the Trojans, 20-7.

Lady Tigers blank Newton

The match to decide the Region 2-AAAAAA softball champion last year came down to county rivals Alcovy and Newton. Alcovy won in a blowout in three innings, and although the win wasn't as big this time, the Lady Tigers still won in convincing fashion, 8-0 in the two rivaling schools first of two games on the season.

Alcovy pitching throws off Rockdale

Alcovy sent two pitchers to the circle in Kalia Johnson and Tanisha "Skeeter" Williams, and both stifled the bats of Rockdale, as the two combined to give up just one hit in a 8-0 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.
