Up until Friday, Newton hadn't lost a region game all season. They traveled down the road to face region opponent and county rival Alcovy on Friday, and Friday night the Lady Tigers ended the Lady Rams' unbeaten region record.
The pick and roll is such an astoundingly simple play, yet it can be the foundation of a team's offense and it can be virtually impossible to stop. Under head coach David Baker, the Lady Tigers use the pick and roll to get their offense going almost exclusively. Still, teams have trouble stopping it.

On Friday night, the Alcovy Tigers basketball team welcomed South Gwinnett to town. Going into the game, Alcovy was looking to get its first win of the season. Despite Alcovy playing with outstanding effort, once against they came up short, losing 64-54.

The Lady Tigers of Alcovy got their first win in region 2-AAAAAA this season on Friday evening. It wasn't an easy one by any means, as the Lady Wildcats of Lovejoy gave them all they could handle. But, Alcovy fought it out, and displayed some toughness with a 51-46 win over Lovejoy.
