BEST moments in basketball

The basketball regular season is long gone and most teams in the county have seen their respective season come to an end in the state playoffs. Looking back on this season, it was filled with great moments, rivalry wins, buzzer-beaters and upsets. Here are some of the photos that capture those moments.

Lady Rams/Lady Tigers ousted in playoffs

After coming so close to winning the Region 2-AAAAAA championship, the No. 2 seed Newton Lady Rams hosted the Lady Packers of Colquitt in the first round of the state tournament on Wednesday evening. Newton definitely did not come out with the same energy they had in the region championship, but they did have late push to be in the position to with the game. Ultimately, Newton came up short and was defeated 46-42.

Tucker dismantles Alcovy

Having great vision, strength, deceptive speed and uncapped energy is what you need to crush a team on your home court, and that's what Tucker did to the Alcovy Lady Tigers, dismantling them in a double-digit victory. From start to finish, Tucker kept the lead, and never looked back.

Bell signs with Albany

Lady Tigers DROP Lady Rams

Up until Friday, Newton hadn't lost a region game all season. They traveled down the road to face region opponent and county rival Alcovy on Friday, and Friday night the Lady Tigers ended the Lady Rams' unbeaten region record.

Pick & roll: Sears to Hodges

The pick and roll is such an astoundingly simple play, yet it can be the foundation of a team's offense and it can be virtually impossible to stop. Under head coach David Baker, the Lady Tigers use the pick and roll to get their offense going almost exclusively. Still, teams have trouble stopping it.

Lady Tigers knock off Newton/NHS boys win big

The last time the Lady Rams and the Lady Tigers played, Newton won on a putback buzzer beater from Alexcia Chatman at home. This time Alcovy's girls didn't let the game come down to one final shot as they used the second half to run off to a 60-51 victory over Newton, giving Newton its first region loss of the season.

VALDOSTA - Cory Pope gave the Lowndes Vikings everything they needed in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Alcovy Tigers. Then in game two, Lowndes' offense came alive and provided plenty of support as the Vikings swept Alcovy 2-0 and 8-1 in the second round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs at Noel George Field.
