The Alcovy Tigers pulled off a late-game comeback against Newton at home Wednesday. After being down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Tigers scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning, winning the game 3-2.
Bacone College just nabbed one of Alcovy High School's multi-purpose athletes in Erin McCalpine, as McCalpine signed his national letter of intent on Friday to pursue his NFL dreams while suiting up at Bacone.
Chance Phillips wanted to sign his letter of intent on National Signing Day, like all the "big time" football players do, but for Chance that wasn't in the cards. However, on Friday morning, Chance Phillips made it official and signed with Point University, where he will continue his football career.
In front of Alcovy High School at 2:30 p.m. Aleea Bishop signed her letter of intent to play soccer at Piedmont College. Bishop's family and friends were there to celebrate Bishop's accomplishments, along with her coaches and other supportive members of the Alcovy faculty and staff.

The No. 4 (Rockdale) and No. 5 (Alcovy) seeds in 2-AAAAAA met at Newton High School Wednesday in a fight for the playoffs. A win and Alcovy would have finished as a top-four seed and made the state tournament, but Rockdale had other plans. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Tigers 69-57, ending the Lady Tigers's chances at a top four seed and a trip to the playoffs.
In her senior season after averaging 23 points per game and 12 rebounds, Tierra Hodges was named Region 2-AAAAAA Player of the Year by the coaches' vote. The coaches also ranked the players in order, from first to second team. The ranking for the girls is as follows:
It was a wonderful senior night for the Lady Tigers, not only did they get the win, but senior Tierra Hodges scored her 1,000th career point and was honored with the game ball during Alcovy's 55-38 win over Lakeside.
