Kalia Johnson: Alcovy athlete of the week

Alcovy pitcher Kalia Johnson is the Covington News' Alcovy athlete of the week for the week of Sept. 1. Johnson was a huge factor in the Tigers' 17-0 blowout win over Tucker. Johnson could've picked up another win last week if the Tigers had played just one more inning against Eastside. The game got cancelled due to bad weather with the Tigers leading by a few runs.

Tigers capitalize off errors, top Newton

In high school softball when you're dealing with young players who are still learning, there will be some mistakes. Most games come down to the team that makes the fewest mistakes and on Tuesday that was Alcovy, as they eased to a 9-1 win over a young Newton team.

Tigers fall to 0-2

It was all déjà vu for the Alcovy Tigers (0-2) on Friday night as they took on the Baldwin Braves from Milledgeville, Georgia. In back-to-back weeks, they gave up 30 points on defense, but this time they weren't able to get on the scoreboard, as the Braves torched Alcovy 30-0.

Alcovy volleyball opens 2-0

Lady Tigers have renewed optimism

The Mt. Zion-Jonesboro Bulldogs hosted the Alcovy Tigers at Tara Stadium Friday night in a game with strong regional implications. The Tigers (4-4, 3-3 Region 4-AAAA) had their sights set on taking third place in the region, but it was the Bulldogs (6-3, 5-2) who moved into second with a 32-15 victory. Few fans were cheering on either side of the stadium in the rain and bitter cold, and it was a rocky start for both teams with the weather seemingly having negative effects early on.
