Stephen Joseph Brown, 72, of Logansport, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, in his residence after a battle with cancer.
Marcene Phillips, 69, of Covington, passed away Feb. 24, 2014. Marcene enjoyed crocheting, traveling to the beach and the mountains, and playing golf with her husband, Dwight. She had an adventurous, outgoing and encouraging spirit, and was the glue that held her family together. Marcene cherished the time spent with her family, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Papa Mac and Mama Mac.
Gary Carl Martin, 52, of Covington, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014. Gary served in the United States Air Force and he was once employed at Walker Harris Chrysler dealership as a service adviser, until he became disabled.
Howard Spearman Haralson, of Covington, passed away Feb. 24, 2014, at the age of 96. Spearman, as he was known to most, was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Covington for 66 years. In the 1950s he owned and operated his own grocery store, Haralson's Grocery, which was located in town between the bus station and Tri City Cleaners. Spearman closed the grocery store in 1972, to join his wife, Grace, in their family business, Haralson Florist. Together they built a business with a reputation for doing more than expected. Catherine "Lois" Allison passed away Feb. 19, 2014, at her home in Covington. She was 67 years of age. Mrs. Allison loved her family, sports, and watching game shows. In addition to enjoying music and dancing, she loved NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Jr. Mrs. Allison just enjoyed life. Mr. James H. Fountain Sr., 76, of Covington, formerly of Decatur, died Feb. 10. The son of the late George Rains and Rossie Iona Wood Fountain, he was born in 1932 in Lake City, Fla. Mr. Fountain retired from Goldkist after many years of service and was employed with Publix after his retirement. His favorite hobby was spending time with family, especially his grandson. Mr. Fountain proudly served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean War.

George (Stump) Cown, age 70 of Loganville passed away Jan. 30, 2009. Mr. Cown was a longtime member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church and was a member of Grayson United Methodist Church. Mr. Cown graduated from Grayson High in 1956, served in the U.S. Navy for two years and retired from AT&T and C.R. Bard Medical in Covington. After retirement, he became known in the Grayson Community as "Santa" to many children.
Mr. James Perry Atkinson, 65, of Madison, died Jan. 12 at his home. The son of the late Herman and Louise Jones Atkinson, he was born in Morgan County in 1943. Mr. Atkinson served in the United States Navy and later worked in sales of construction supplies. Mr. Atkinson was currently employed by Hallman Wood Products in Eatonton. Mr. Atkinson enjoyed fishing and wood working and restoring antique tractors.

Mr. Roger L. Smith Sr., 79, of Conyers, died Jan. 21. The son of the late Homer and Ethel Matthews Smith, he was born in Duvall County, Fla., in 1929. Mr. Smith was retired from Eastern Airlines as an inspector and was a member of American Legion Post 77. He was preceded in death by son Roger Smith Jr.
