J.C. "Shep" Shepard Jr., 89, of Social Circle, passed to be with his beloved wife of 50 years Elizabeth "Liz" Clay Shepard on August 25, 2014. Born December 20, 1924, he was the son of the late James Curtis Shepard and Jessie V. Shepard Studdard. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Shepard.
Louise Thomason of Covington, passed away Aug. 24, 2014, at the age of 84. Ms. Thomason was an active member of New Life Praise Center, in Covington, and was a dedicated employee of Lithonia Lighting for 38 years. Following her work at Lithonia Lighting, she dedicated herself to caring for handicapped children. Ms. Thomason was a giving lady, and constantly gave of her time to help those less fortunate. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Preceding her in death was her brother, Thomas McCord.
Mrs. Rita Ward White, age 90, of Oxford, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, at her home. Mrs. White was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Statesboro, Georgia, and was the eldest daughter of Robert Lee and Florence Hendrix Ward. She grew up in a farming family in Bulloch County, Georgia, and was a graduate of Nevils High School. In 1943, she married her husband of 56 years, Darvin White. Mrs. Bonnie M. Tingler, of Covington, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014, at the age of 87. She was born in Ronceverte, West Virginia to the late Russell and Emma M. Morgan. Mrs. Tingler was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Covington and was an avid BINGO player at the Covington ELKS Club and Conyers American Legion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Tingler.
Charles R. "Chuck" Thacker Jr., 39, of Heyworth, Ill. passed away Monday, Dec. 28 at the University of Chicago Hospital. His private burial will take place at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Rev. Kurt Flora will officiate. Chuck was born July 1, 1970 to Charles and Melanie Coody Thacker in Covington. They survive. He married Lori Earl on Nov. 4, 2000 in Kissimmee, Fla. She survives.

Denver Armistead of Covington, GA died Friday January 1, 2010 at Newton Medical Center. She was born on October 23, 1921 in Floyd Co. Ga to Earve P and Fannie Ivey Gwin. Mrs. Hooker was raised and educated in Metuchen (Middlesex County), N.J. She was a graduate of Metuchen High School and Drake College, class of 1962. Combining intelligence, hard work and an impeccable work ethic, she was a valued employee of General Electric, transferring to Georgia in the 1970s. Mr. Marvin D. McGiboney Sr., 91 of Covington died December 19, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. McGiboney was born in Newton County in 1918 to the late Charlie and Lumbia Whiddon McGiboney. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years and served during W.W. II.
