Ollie Mae Grant Sams, age 86, passed Sunday, May 19, 2013. A visitation will be Thursday May, 23rd at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home in Covington,Ga. from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30p.m. Graveside service will be held following the visitation at 2:00 p.m. in the Newborn Memorial Cemetery in Newborn, Ga.
Mrs. Faye Womac, 62, of Covington passed away May 4, 2013 at her residence. She was born April 16, 1951 in Porterdale and was a lifelong resident of Newton County. Mrs. Womac grew up in the First Baptist Church of Porterdale and worked as a nurse's assistant for many years, her family said she had a caretaker's heart and took great care of everyone. She loved people and loved to talk. Mrs. Womac was preceded in death by her father Ed Loyd, her brother and sister-in-law Ricky and Lynn Loyd and her sister Linda Loyd Durden.
Mrs. Hazel Harris Parish, 88, of Covington, joined her heavenly Father, May 1, peacefully at Abbey Hospice while surrounded by her family. Mrs. Parish was a lifelong resident of Covington and member of the First Baptist Church. She worked briefly, but when her children came along, the decision was made to be a full-time wife and mother. You could often find Mrs. Parish sitting on Floyd Street greeting everyone who came by. Mrs. Parish was loved and will be missed by her family and friends. Mr. George (Skeet) Harper, 93, of Porterdale, passed away April 30. Mr. Harper worked for Bibb Manufacturing Company for 20 years, before retiring from Hercules, in 1983, after 14 years of service. He was Past Master of the Pace Masonic Lodge No. 558 F&AM, in Porterdale, where he was a member for 60 years. In addition, he was a faithful member of County Line Baptist Church.
Mr. Stevin P. Herald, 49, of McLean passed away April 29 at his residence in McLean, Ill. The son of Darlene Herald Koberlein, he was born September 1963 in Bloomington, Ill. He was a 1981 graduate of Bloomington High School. He was previously employed for the Alamo II Bookstore in Normal, Ill. Mr. Al Alessandri, 91, of McDonough, passed away May 1. He was born on Jan. 23, 1922, in Springfield, Mass. Alessandri was a World War II veteran who served in France, India and China from 1942–1946. After a long career as a tool design engineer with Lithonia Lighting, he retired in 1989.
Mr. Floyd McGiboney, age 77, of Covington, passed away April 30, 2013 at his residence. He was born August 2, 1935 in Covington, Georgia to the late Horace McGiboney and Grace Flanigan McGiboney Dick. Mr. McGiboney was retired from General Motors after 29 years. He loved his family very much and enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends every chance he could. Mr. McGiboney was a handyman and enjoyed woodworking, upholstery, and working in his yard. He was preceded in death by his first wife Bobbie Duke McGiboney, and his son Marion Floyd McGiboney, Jr "Zero".
