Mr. Henry Starr Corley, of Covington, passed away, Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the age of 93. He was born February 19, 1921 in the Starrsville Community of Newton County to the late William H. Corley, Sr. and Leila Wright Corley and was also preceded in death by his brother, William H. Corley, Jr. and sister, Katheryn Corley Mills. Mr. Corley was a surveyor for the Georgia Department of Transportation and a veteran of the United States Army Airforce. He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Mr. Kenneth Felton "Tump" Bradford, age 74, of Oxford passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014. He was born November 3, 1939 in Lawrenceville to the late William Howard and Jewell Lindsey Bradford. Mr. Bradford served in the United States Navy and was a member of Central Community Church. He was retired from General Motors and also worked for a number of years following his retirement at General Mills. Mr. Bradford loved to work in his garden and loved his family very much. He was preceded in death by his sister Gloria Fincannon and his grandson Tucker Hankins.
Marilyn McKay Ellisor, age 71, died Friday October 3, 2014, in her home in Watkinsville, after a valiant year-long confrontation with cancer. During her last days and hours she was comforted by family, many friends and the capable staff of Silverleaf Hospice.
G. Orville Capps of Covington, passed away October 1, 2014, at the age of 88. Mr. Capps was a member of County Line Baptist Church. He was a dedicated employee, of the City of Covington, where he worked several years prior to his retirement. Prior to his employment with the City, Mr. Capps worked for Gas, Inc. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, enjoyed watching wrestling and spending time outdoors gardening and fishing. Reuben Yearwood, age 79, of Covington, passed away September 30, 2014. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and going fishing. Mr. Yearwood loved his family dearly, and especially cherished his time spent with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Howard and Lovie (Chambers) Yearwood.
Ralph William "Bill" Hoffman passed away in his Covington home, September 30, 2014, at the age of 90. Mr. Hoffman was a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church, in Covington, where he also served as past chairman of the Board, Sunday School teacher and superintendent of the Intermediate Department.
Mildred "Mrs. Millie" Maloy, a lifelong resident of Porterdale, passed away September 27, 2014, at the age of 95. She was a member of Porterdale Baptist Church and the Porterdale Woman's Club. Mrs. Millie was known for her sharp mind and quick wit, and therefore gained the nickname, "The General." She loved her family dearly and especially cherished her role as a grandmother. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family. Mrs. Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl B. Maloy; parents, Leo and Candace Shaw; and her brother, Marshall "Pete" Shaw.
Annelle Townsend, of Oxford, passed away Sept. 26, 2014 at the age of 82. Married to Grady Townsend for 59 years, the couple honeymooned in Daytona, and visited there every year around their anniversary. Mrs. Townsend enjoyed shopping, but most of all she loved being with her family. She was a member of Heritage Hills Baptist Church in Conyers and will be remembered as a great cook – always preparing more than enough. Mrs. Townsend was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sally Mae Davis; brothers, Buford Davis, R.H. Davis; and sister, Willene Royal.
Vera K. Stalvey, of Covington, passed away September 26, 2014, at the age of 94. Mrs. Stalvey lived in Rome, GA until she moved to Covington in 1975. She was a member of Covington Church of God in Covington, and a former member or East Rome Church of God, where she taught Sunday School. Mrs. Stalvey enjoyed quilting, crocheting and ceramics, but her focus was being a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norwood A. Funeral services for Opal O'Dell Graves, 91, of Murphy, North Carolina., were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. The Reverends Edward Carter, Fred Lunsford and Jim Ross officiated. Following the service, interment was in the church's cemetery. She died on Monday, September 15, 2014, after an extended illness.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Elmer "Mo" Blankenship, Sr. 87, of Oxford, passed away on September 23, 2014 at Newton Medical Center. He was born on May 29, 1927 to the late Mindy Smith Blankenship. Mr. Blankenship was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Covington where he served as a deacon. He served in the US Navy during WWII and was one of the founding members of the Newton County Touchdown Club. William H. Kay III died on May 5 at 10:55 in the morning at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He fought a very brave and difficult battle. At his death he was surrounded by his wife, Maria Granito-Kay, his daughter Valerie Kay (Graham), his son William H. Kay IV and his sister Norah Burnes. Mr. Kay was 68 years old.
Don Vallee Barnes, 80, of Covington, moved on to heaven May 8. The son of Horace Benton Barnes Sr. and Emma Curtis Barnes, he was born in 1930. A graduate of the University of Georgia, he served proudly in the United States Marine Corps and retired after 30 years service as an electronic equipment specialist at Warner Robins AFB. Mr. Barnes was predeceased by his sister Emogene B. Daniel.

Mrs. Patricia "Pat" Dunevent, 64, of Covington died Wednesday, May 04, 2011 at Abbey Hospice. She was born July 12, 1946 in Rome, GA to the late Marshall Leonard and Clara Mae Heath Adams. Mrs. Dunevent was of the Baptist faith and attended Solid Rock Baptist Church. She enjoyed camping, crocheting and was the best cook in the country.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Frank Vernon Scott; sisters, the late Christine Weldon, the late Dorothy Williamson, the late Mildred Bentley, the late Elaine Owens, the late Dora Mae Owens; and brother, the late Howard Thompson.
Bobbye Maddox Cawthon, 84, of Jackson, died April 29 at the Abby Hospice in Social Circle. She had been residing at Autumn Village Assisted Living Center in Jackson. She was born in Butts County, in 1927 one of 11 children of Glenn C. and Leila Mason Maddox. She was wife of the late John Curry Cawthon. Mrs. Cawthon was a secretary for Eastern Air Lines for many years before her retirement. She was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church in Covington.
William Roy Aiken Jr. (Bill) died peacefully with his family on April 29, 2011. He was born in Covington, GA on May 31, 1928. He was the only child of W. Roy Aiken and Florrie Aiken of Covington. Bill attended Heard Mixon School as a young child and later graduated with a M.S. degree from University of Georgia. He also attended Abraham Baldwin doing his undergraduate studies. William C. Johnston, 84, of Covington, passed away April 29, 2011, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. Mr. Johnston served in the U.S. Army, worked as a forklift driver at Ace Hardware in Conyers, and at the Army Distribution Center in Conley. He enjoyed fishing, storytelling, and spending time with his church family at Lovejoy United Methodist Church. He was a devoted husband, father and friend to many.
