Mr. Tommy Joe Hardy of Jackson died June 2 at Atlanta Medical South. He was born in 1949 in Porterdale to Perry L. and Florine Woods Hardy. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially Tony Stewart. He was a dirt track champion at Senoia and he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth Hollingsworth Ellis, 98, born June 23, 1914 in Newton County, Georgia passed away at her home on June 3, 2013. She lived in the Salem Community with her parents John Milton and Toccoa Corrine Ramsey Hollingsworth until her marriage to Charles Jones Ellis and then resided in Oxford, Georgia. Tessie Oleta Smith, age 78, devoted wife and mother, passed away June 1, 2013 after a long struggle with Alzheimers Disease at her home in Jackson, Georgia. Born on May 28, 1935 in Apple Farm, West Virginia to the late John Frank and Maude Elizabeth Campbell. Tessie was a loving wife to Major Dennis Ray Smith who predeceased her on June 19, 2011, having been married for 54 years at the time of his passing.
Mrs. Doris T. Williams, 86, of Oxford, passed away May 30. Mrs. Williams was an active member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church and enjoyed working with the youth at her church and both the local Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
Patricia "Patty" Louise Johnson Umphrey, 86, of Covington, died May 30. A native of El Paso, Texas, Mrs. Umphrey lived most of her life in the greater Atlanta area. A homemaker, she was a lifelong Southern Baptist with membership, recently, at Zion Baptist Church in Covington and, formerly, at Rainbow Park Baptist in Decatur and White Oak Hills Baptist in Atlanta and Stone Mountain. Mrs. Umphrey was preceded in death by her parents the Rev. Pat A. Johnson and Vinnie Caskey Johnson and sons, Robert Joe Umphrey and Michael Alan Umphrey.
Mrs. Judith "Judy" Stein Reichart, 72, of Social Circle, died May 21. She was born in Valley Falls, Kan., on Jan. 29, 1941 to Anna Kelly Stein and William B. Stein. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Bob" Reichart; and her infant son Robert Brett Reichart.
Mrs. Jane Sherwood Osborne, 81, of Douglasville passed away May 23. She was born Feb. 23, 1932, in Mansfield, the daughter of Aubra Lee Sherwood and Ruth Campbell Sherwood. Mrs. Osborne graduated from Porterdale High School in 1948. Her sister Patsy said that as a senior, Jane was chosen for all the superlatives.
Mrs. Sara Deason, age 79, a lifelong resident of Covington, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Abbey Hospice. She was born August 6, 1933 to the late Ermine and Josephine Cartledge Johnson. Mrs. Deason was a member of The Baptist Tabernacle and served the Lord her entire life. She taught Sunday school for many years and was a past president of the WMU. Mrs. Deason was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and was preceded in death by her husband Rufus Deason.
