A daughter of one of Newton County's early farming families, Marjorie Inez Adams Rainey, a long time Covington, GA homemaker, age 98, died peacefully at home in Marietta, GA on July 28, 2013. Mrs. Rainey was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Emory Lloyd "Too Tall" Rainey. She was born in Mansfield, GA to James Oscar Adams and Carrie Theresa Lasseter Adams, one of 12 children. Sylvester Cheatham Jr. of Covington died July 24 at his residence. He was born in 1927 in Orlando, Fla., to Sylvester and Luella Windsor Windsor Cheatham Sr. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed playing poker, fishing and watching NASCAR. He liked all sports especisally baseball and the Braves. He was a lifelong member of the VFW.
Beatrice Leachman Moore, 86, of Covington, passed away July 25 at Riverside Healthcare Center. Mrs. Moore loved working in her yard, growing flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed reading her Bible, crocheting and playing the guitar. She attended several Baptist churches in Newton County during her lifetime.
Vera Annette Oliver, 79, passed away July 21 at her home in Oxford. Mrs. Oliver was a professional seamstress, making everything from doll clothes to wedding dresses. Her daughter had the honor of wearing a wedding dress fashioned by her mother when she married. She was a member of North Rockdale Baptist Church, as well as Macedonia Baptist Church, in Oxford, serving as choir director in both churches. She also attended Corinth Christian Church. She taught herself to play the autoharp and piano and was a self-taught cake decorator. She loved collectibles and cooking, especially sausage gravy, preparing Thanksgiving meals ...
"Chris" Christopher Charles Campbell, 29, of Covington, passed away on July 19. Mr. Campbell was a very generous person; he would give anyone in need the shirt off his back. He dearly loved his family and loved to make people laugh and smile.
Florine W. Hardy of Covington died July 17 at her residence. She was born in1919 in Jackson, the daughter of Otis and Lelia Woods. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed baby sitting for her friends and neighbors.
Mrs. Hattie J. Henderson departed this earthly life on July 2. She was born in Newton County on Nov. 9, 1934 to Thomas and Olden Kimball. She was the second of four children, of which, brother Joseph Kimball, preceded her in death. She attended and graduated from Washington Street School where she met the love of her life in Prentist L. Henderson Sr. They were joined in holy matrimony on Feb. 8, 1953, and to this union, 10 children were born and one adopted. Three of her children preceded her in death, one daughter at birth, Susan, and Tony.
