Betty J. Mallett, of Covington, passed away January 10, 2014, at the age of 82. A homemaker and mother of three, she loved her family dearly. She volunteered with the Hospital Auxiliary and was involved with the Women's Club and PTA. She enjoyed amateur art and gardening. Mrs. Mallett was preceded in death by her parents, William T. and Lelia (Harrison) Martin; and brothers, Wayne H. Martin and James Martin.
Marshalene Cromer Love, of Covington, died Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Piedmont Hospital. She was born June 1, 1937, in Royston, Ga., to Jim and Gertrude Cromer.
Mrs. Margaret Blomberg, age 92, of Conyers formerly of Stone Mountain passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014. She was born July 22, 1921 in Glasgow, Scotland to the late Ebenezer and Margaret Barrie Bauchop. Mrs. Blomberg retired at age 72 from Bank of America. After her retirement she worked for ten years as the church secretary at Prospect United Methodist where she was also a member. Saleta Lunsford, age 70, a lifelong resident of the Covington and Social Circle area passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014. She was born in Porterdale on July 27, 1943 to the late Horace and Magnolia Barnes Lunsford. Saleta retired from Bellsouth and was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved going to the beach. Ms. Lunsford was preceded in death by her brother H. Lamar Lunsford. Mr. Elisha "Junior" Hardy, age 79, of Covington passed away at his residence Wednesday, January 8, 2014. He was born October 8, 1934 in Jasper Georgia to the late Elisha Frances and Lillie Mae Carter Hardy. Mr. Hardy was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed gardening, animals, especially feeding the fish in the pond behind his house, and enjoyed going to flea markets and thrift stores. He owned and operated Hardy's Citgo in Social Circle for many years. Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by his wife Gloria Kay Hardy and his grandson Andy Harville.
Dr. Charles Samuel Frady, husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and mathematician, passed away on November 13, 2013. Born on September 30, 1937, in Sylva, N.C., to Sarah and Ellis Frady, and one of 11 brothers and sisters,Charlie began life with meager circumstances. At the age of 3, Charlie was stricken with polio, but this tragic diagnosis turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Instead of dropping out of school to work in the town mill, Charlie was able to finish high school, and thus began his journey toward higher education.
Lee Ann Brown, of Covington, passed away November 15, 2013, at the age of 52. She was at home surrounded by her loving family after fighting a long illness.
Nadine White Long, 82, of Porterdale passed away Nov. 11, at Covington Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Long enjoyed sewing and reading. She was a member of Central Community Church in Covington and will be remembered as a devoted wife, aunt and friend to many. Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her parents, Rupert Eugene and Ammerett (Butler) White.
Mary A. Burch of Covington, 92, passed away Nov. 11. Mrs. Burch was a choir member and longtime Sunday School teacher at both Porterdale and Oxford Baptist churches. She was a very Godly woman who loved the Lord and was involved in the homebound ministry, visiting the shut-ins. Mrs. Burch enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, reading and working crossword puzzles. She loved her family dearly and will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary Bowie Whittaker of Covington passed away Nov. 8. The daughter of Roy E. and Odessa Davis Bowie, she was born in 1932, in Manchester. She graduated from Porterdale High School in the Class of 1949 and was also a graduate of Crawford W. Long School of Nursing. Ms. Whittaker worked as a surgical nurse at Georgia Baptist Hospital and for Dr. Charles Dowman for many years. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Joe Whittaker, and her brother, James Richard Bowie.

C.F. Henderson, of Covington, passed away Nov. 7, 2013, at the age of 91. Mr. Henderson was employed by Firestone Tires in Covington for 17 years, and operated Henderson's Phillips 66 Station for many years. After selling his gas station, he worked for Almon Construction Co. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where his son, the Rev. Harold Ray Henderson, served as pastor. Prior to his membership at Grace, he was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Martha K. Hewell of Social Circle passed away November 8, 2013, at the age of 84. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church, where she served as leader of the nursery department for many years.

Minnetta Nelms of Covington passed away November 6, 2013, at the age of 78. Mrs. Nelms taught at Cousins Middle School for more than 30 years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and fishing. Mrs. Nelms loved her family dearly, and cherished her time with each of them.

Mr. Holland Adams, 76, of Rutledge, died Nov. 3. The son of Ralph David and Eula Pearl Studdard Adams, he was born in Social Circle in 1937. He was retired from General Motors. Mr. Adams was a member of Social Circle First Baptist Church. He was an avid gardener and cook. Both of these talents were part of his ministry to his community. He always planted enough to share with others. He will long be remembered for the cheese straws and cinnamon rolls that he cooked for others. James Douglas Ivey, 55, of Oxford, passed away Nov. 3. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend to many. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening. Mr. Ivey also enjoyed photography and traveling, especially to the mountains.
Jackie Paul "Jack" Tomlin, 68, of Woodville, Ga., passed away on November 2, 2013, at Athens Regional Medical Center. He suffered from a sudden aortic dissection and was unable to recover.
