Mrs. Johnie Fillyaw Tuck, age 95, a lifelong resident of Covington passed away March 27, 2012 at Merryvale Assisted Living. She was born in the Alcovy Community of Newton County on January 12, 1917 to the late John Samuel and Annie Coody Fillyaw. Mrs. Tuck was a devout Christian and lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Covington, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Holland Briscoe Tuck in 2003.
Mr. Charles Timothy "Tim" Hay, of Covington, died peacefully at his home March 28, 2012, at the age of 62. Son of the late Otis Daniel and Christine Callahan Hay, he was a longtime employee of Peoples Drug Store, working at all 3 locations, spanning 43 years. Mr. Hay was of the Baptist faith and a member of High Point Baptist Church from an early age. Mr. Billy Davis, age 83, a lifelong resident of Covington passed away Friday, April 6, 2012 at Newton Medical Center. He was born February 5, 1929 in Covington, GA to the late Harry Quigg, Sr and Agnes Lynn McClure Davis. Mr. Davis served his country proudly in the Untied States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was retired from the City of Covington, retiring as the Deputy Public Works Director after a career spanning 37 years. Mr. Davis enjoyed playing golf, fishing and throwing darts. He was preceded in death by his wife Sara Head Davis.
Mrs. Charlotte A. Nichols age 74 of Covington died Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Dekalb Medical Center. She was born in Rome, Georgia on February 22, 1938 to Charles David and Frances Allen (Carlson) Wakeley. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was of the Baptist faith. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Alma Mae Johnson Carroll of Covington, passed away April 10, 2012, at the age of 83. Mrs. Carroll was a member of High Point Baptist Church, and loved singing in the church choir. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, and vegetable and flower gardening. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother; and wonderful friend to many. Mrs. Carroll was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie C. and Merle (Roberts) Johnson; sister, Helen J. Baker; step-brother, Donald Johnson.
Ruth S. Edge of Covington, passed away April 13, 2012, at the age of 85. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. Mrs. Edge retired from Lockheed, with more than 18 year of dedicated service. She enjoyed flower gardening, and she loved her family dearly. Mrs. Edge was preceded in death by her husband, Mercer R. Edge; parents, John Henry and Mary (Cagle) Savage; and eight siblings.
Steve Ammons of Covington, passed away April 14, 2012, at the age of 57. He was a fun, outgoing, loving man that everyone enjoyed being around. He never met a stranger. Steve enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and family. He was very passionate about his music; and loved playing the drums and fishing with his best friends. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
Albert (Al) Boozer, Jr., of Conyers, passed away April 15, 2012, at the age of 74. Mr. Boozer retired from Sweetheart Plastics with 31 ½ years of dedicated service. He was a very active member of The Potter's House, in Covington. He often helped any way he could at the church, and always took care of the church's electrical needs. He enjoyed camping, and especially enjoyed visiting Vogel State Park. Mr. Boozer loved children, and always made time to spend with them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert, Sr., and Mary (Parker) Boozer.
Beverly Diane Jones of Monticello, GA died Saturday April 14, 2012 at Coliseum Medical Center in Macon Ga. She was born on December 15, 1939 in Atlanta, GA to Bennett Butner and Martha Marie Long Pace. She was a member of Living Waters Community Church in Conyers, Ga and enjoyed painting and gardening. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and will be missed by her family.
Jack Melvin of Covington, passed away April 16, 2012, at the age of 79. He enjoyed sports, traveling, gambling, and going to Biloxi. Mr. Melvin loved his grandchildren dearly, and enjoyed spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his son, Greg Bowen; and his parents, Walter and Nellie (Crutchfield) Melvin.
Denise Roan of Alto, GA, formerly of Conyers, passed away April 17, 2012, at the age of 55. She enjoyed writing poetry and songs, crocheting, fishing, spending time with her animals, and being around people. Denise loved her family dearly, and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gladys (Dutton) Roan; her sisters, Marie Walker, Bobbie Lee Harcourt; and her brother, Ray (Peewee) Roan.
Roy H. Gazaway Jr. of Covington, GA passed away Wednesday April 18, 2012 at his residence. He was born on May 18, 1930 in Eatonton, GA to Roy H. and Ruth Hinesdale Gazaway Sr. Mr. Gazaway served in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon discharge he was employed with Henson Furniture Company in Covington. He later entered the insurance business as an insurance agent, retiring after more than 28 years.
