Mrs. Geina A. Stanton, age 89, of Social Circle passed away October 18, 2012. She was born in Cuthbert, GA to the late Hull and Mary Johnson Andrews on July 26, 1926. Mrs. Stanton was a retired school teacher who began her career as a home economics teacher at Social Circle High School. She left her career for a time to raise her sons before returning to the class room teaching until her retirement at Ficquett Elementary School. Inez Phillips Bowen

Mrs. Inez Phillips Bowen, 88, of Covington, died Oct. 9. The daughter of Oscar and Omie McCart Phillips of Porterdale, Mrs. Bowen was a direct descendant of Noah Phillips who established the first textile mill in Newton County at Cedar Shoals (now Porterdale). She was an avid golfer, owned and operated a hair salon in Covington for many years, and was a member of the North Covington United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Joel T. Bowen Sr. and an infant son Billy Thomas Bowen.

Brenda Kay Turner, age 67, of Covington passed away October 3, 2012 at Emory University Hospital. She was born December 19, 1944 in Porterdale, Georgia to the late James and Mary Kelly Davis. Mrs. Turner enjoyed flowers and shopping, she was a longtime employee of Phil's Pawn Bank in Conyers working there for 25 years. She loved her family dearly; she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Turner also loved her 5 Chihuahua's. She was preceded in death by her brother Jimmy Davis.

Manuel B. Cordero

Mr. Manuel B. Cordero, of Conyers, passed away Sept. 27 at Rockdale Medical Center. He was born in 1927 in Camaguey, Cuba, to Santos and Concha Hernandez Cordero. Mr. Cordero came to the U.S. as a professional baseball player, and his career was cut short due to injury. He worked in the trucking industry for 42 years and served as president of a local trucking company. He was an active member of Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
