Richard Larry "Gran-paw Tater" Tanner, age 64, of White Plains, Ga., passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Richard was born in Buckhead, Ga., on Dec. 6, 1949. He was the oldest of nine children born to the late Gordon Arlin Tanner and Ina Ellen Burchard Tanner. He was a 1968 graduate of Newton County High School and married Carolyn Ann Mentel on Oct. 24, 1970.
Catherine Thorp, of Covington, died Nov. 24, at The A.G. Rhodes Home -- Cobb. The daughter of the late Lewis Sullivan and Maude Nutting Leach, she was born in 1919, in Jacksonville, Fla. She was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Covington and the Covington Woman's Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family.
Shane Kenny, 34, of Rockdale County, passed away suddenly November 25, 2013. Shane was a 1997 graduate of Rockdale County High School, and lettered in both baseball and football during his high school career. His love for sports led him to coach youth baseball, in Newton and Rockdale counties, and he has influenced the lives of so many while coaching. He enjoyed watching professional and college sports, but most important to him were his children. He was a devoted husband, an exceptional father, and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Bill Brantley, age 79, of Covington passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013. He was born February 10, 1934 in Morganfield, Kentucky to the late William Thomas and Margaret Taylor Brantley. Mr. Brantley served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He attended Georgia Tech and graduated with a degree as an Industrial Engineer. After graduating he worked for and retired from the United States Postal Service. Raburn Lee Crawford, of Covington passed away Nov. 21, 2013 at the age of 80. He was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church and was a dedicated employee of Bonded Service Warehouse for 47 years. He was thankful for all his blessings, his home and especially his family, whom he loved dearly. He enjoyed shopping at yard sales and pawn shops. Mr. Crawford loved gardening, giving vegetables away and riding his grandchildren on his farm equipment.
Joseph Frank Lawson Jr., 82, and his wife, Margaret Elizabeth (Seidel) Lawson, 86, died at their home in Shady Dale, November 19, 2013. They were married 66 years, and together they instilled in their children the values of hard work, honesty and faith in the true God Jehovah. Mrs. Lawson was a devoted wife and mother and an ideal sister to Eugene M. Seidel of Portland, Ore.
Ronald Lee Dimery, of Oxford, passed away Monday, November 18, 2013, at the age of 78. He met and married the love of his life, Dottie, at Florida State University, and they were married for 58½ years. Mr. Dimery was an accomplished residential and commercial architect, winning multiple awards for historic preservation. He dearly loved his family and his country. A Boy Scout troop leader, he enjoyed being outdoors and was an adventurer extraordinaire. Anabel Bleckley Donaldson died at Newton Medical Center on November 19, 2013. She was born in Clayton, Georgia in 1924. Anabel was the daughter of the late Leon and Irene Bleckley of Clayton, Georgia. Anabel is survived by her brother Dr. James Bleckley of Anderson, South Carolina, her daughter Anna Donaldson of Oldsmar, Florida, her son Robert Bickford of Dallas, Texas, and her daughter Candace Wagner of Covington, Georgia. Anabel attended Rabun County High School where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. Dr. Charles Samuel Frady, husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and mathematician, passed away on November 13, 2013. Born on September 30, 1937, in Sylva, N.C., to Sarah and Ellis Frady, and one of 11 brothers and sisters,Charlie began life with meager circumstances. At the age of 3, Charlie was stricken with polio, but this tragic diagnosis turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Instead of dropping out of school to work in the town mill, Charlie was able to finish high school, and thus began his journey toward higher education.
Lee Ann Brown, of Covington, passed away November 15, 2013, at the age of 52. She was at home surrounded by her loving family after fighting a long illness.
Nadine White Long, 82, of Porterdale passed away Nov. 11, at Covington Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Long enjoyed sewing and reading. She was a member of Central Community Church in Covington and will be remembered as a devoted wife, aunt and friend to many. Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her parents, Rupert Eugene and Ammerett (Butler) White.
Mary A. Burch of Covington, 92, passed away Nov. 11. Mrs. Burch was a choir member and longtime Sunday School teacher at both Porterdale and Oxford Baptist churches. She was a very Godly woman who loved the Lord and was involved in the homebound ministry, visiting the shut-ins. Mrs. Burch enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, reading and working crossword puzzles. She loved her family dearly and will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary Bowie Whittaker of Covington passed away Nov. 8. The daughter of Roy E. and Odessa Davis Bowie, she was born in 1932, in Manchester. She graduated from Porterdale High School in the Class of 1949 and was also a graduate of Crawford W. Long School of Nursing. Ms. Whittaker worked as a surgical nurse at Georgia Baptist Hospital and for Dr. Charles Dowman for many years. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Joe Whittaker, and her brother, James Richard Bowie.
