Joy Trapp of Conyers passed away January 18, 2014, at the age of 54. Joy was a very generous and loving mother who gave her all for the ones she loved. She lived for her family, and considered herself graced and honored to have her grandchildren.

Matthew Wayne Morris, Emory University professor emeritus of French, passed away January 16, 2014, after a long illness. Born Nov. 11, 1942, in the Cincinnati suburb of Newport, Ky., he grew up in Cartersville, Ga. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, including one year in Vietnam in 1967 and three years aboard the USS Sarsfield. He received his Ph.D. in Romance Languages from the University of Georgia in 1977 and began teaching at Oxford College of Emory University in 1978. Ruth Ricks, of Covington, passed away on Jan. 17, 2014, at the age of 79. Her favorite thing to do was to watch old western movies. She also loved working in her yard, taking care of her flowers. When she was able, she enjoyed fishing, camping and sewing. Mrs. Ricks was preceded in death by her first husband, Aaron Ricks; and parents, James W. and Winfred (Saxon) Bruce.
Susan Wilson, age 54, of Conyers passed away January 13, 2014. She was born to the late George Richard and Wanda Rappaport Wilson in Memphis Tennessee on October 10, 1959. The Wilson family moved to Avondale Estates in 1962 and lived there until moving to Conyers when Susan was 16. She was a 1977 graduate of Rockdale High School. Susan was a cosmetologist and formerly owned and operated Hair Motif in Conyers. She loved to crochet and travel with friends.
Maj. Venon Harrison (Vic) Ison, Ret., of Covington, passed away at the age of 90 on January 13, 2014. Maj. Ison was born Nov. 19, 1923, in Cumberland, Ky. He was the son of the late Nick and Jane Ison.

Elsie Eidson Crawford, 90, of Covington, passed away on January 14, 2014, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. A native of Carrollton, she had called Covington home since 1950. Mrs. Crawford was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Covington. She retired from Grand Union (Colonial Stores) with 37 years of service. Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by her parents, Landis Aquillian and Rebecca McCollum Eidson; her beloved husband, Newell Crawford; and her sister, Ruth Eidson Williams.
Dr. Darrel D. King of Covington went home to be with the Lord January 13, 2014, after a brief battle with leukemia. He was born in 1938, in a farmhouse in Campbell, Mo., to Delbert and Melba (Shaffer) King. The son of a sharecropper, he was educated in a one-room schoolhouse. He often credited his teacher, Althea Malin, with inspiring him to think big and pursue his dreams beyond the Cotton Belt Railroad and the boot heel of Missouri.

Mrs. Vera Weaver Fletcher died April 21 in Walton County. The daughter of the late John Henry and Nina Weaver, she was born in 1934 in Newton County. She was raised and educated in Newton County, graduating from Washington Street High School in 1954. Mrs. Fletcher joined Early Hope Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and Mother Board and was president of the Program Committee. She married Mr. Eugene Fletcher in 1957. Mr. Herman "Pipe" Cobb Jr. of Covington, died April 9. The son of Mrs. Mildred Belcher sims and the late Herman Cobb Sr., he was born in Newton County in 1955. Mr. Cobb was a graduate of Newton County High School and a member of James Paschal Baptist church. Following in the footsteps of his daddy, Mr. Cobb entered the grading business at an early age. He was a heavy equipment operator for Sims Excavating Inc. Mr. Cobb was fun outgoing, talkative and a genuine friend. He knew no strangers. Mr. Oscsar Mell Lunsford of North Augusta died April 8. Mr. Lunsford was a native of Covington, a former resident of Orlando, Fla., having made North Augusta his home for the past 14 years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Cokesbury Sunday School Class, a US Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and a retired Engineer with Lockheed Martin.
