Joy Trapp of Conyers passed away January 18, 2014, at the age of 54. Joy was a very generous and loving mother who gave her all for the ones she loved. She lived for her family, and considered herself graced and honored to have her grandchildren.

Matthew Wayne Morris, Emory University professor emeritus of French, passed away January 16, 2014, after a long illness. Born Nov. 11, 1942, in the Cincinnati suburb of Newport, Ky., he grew up in Cartersville, Ga. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, including one year in Vietnam in 1967 and three years aboard the USS Sarsfield. He received his Ph.D. in Romance Languages from the University of Georgia in 1977 and began teaching at Oxford College of Emory University in 1978. Ruth Ricks, of Covington, passed away on Jan. 17, 2014, at the age of 79. Her favorite thing to do was to watch old western movies. She also loved working in her yard, taking care of her flowers. When she was able, she enjoyed fishing, camping and sewing. Mrs. Ricks was preceded in death by her first husband, Aaron Ricks; and parents, James W. and Winfred (Saxon) Bruce.
Susan Wilson, age 54, of Conyers passed away January 13, 2014. She was born to the late George Richard and Wanda Rappaport Wilson in Memphis Tennessee on October 10, 1959. The Wilson family moved to Avondale Estates in 1962 and lived there until moving to Conyers when Susan was 16. She was a 1977 graduate of Rockdale High School. Susan was a cosmetologist and formerly owned and operated Hair Motif in Conyers. She loved to crochet and travel with friends.
Maj. Venon Harrison (Vic) Ison, Ret., of Covington, passed away at the age of 90 on January 13, 2014. Maj. Ison was born Nov. 19, 1923, in Cumberland, Ky. He was the son of the late Nick and Jane Ison.

Elsie Eidson Crawford, 90, of Covington, passed away on January 14, 2014, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. A native of Carrollton, she had called Covington home since 1950. Mrs. Crawford was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Covington. She retired from Grand Union (Colonial Stores) with 37 years of service. Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by her parents, Landis Aquillian and Rebecca McCollum Eidson; her beloved husband, Newell Crawford; and her sister, Ruth Eidson Williams.
Dr. Darrel D. King of Covington went home to be with the Lord January 13, 2014, after a brief battle with leukemia. He was born in 1938, in a farmhouse in Campbell, Mo., to Delbert and Melba (Shaffer) King. The son of a sharecropper, he was educated in a one-room schoolhouse. He often credited his teacher, Althea Malin, with inspiring him to think big and pursue his dreams beyond the Cotton Belt Railroad and the boot heel of Missouri.

Marianne D. Crowe, 79, of Conyers, passed away Sunday, June 21. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years. She is survived by son, Daniel and LouAnn Crowe, Conyers; 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, friends. Mrs. Evelyn Childers of Oxford passed away at Newton Medical Center on June 19, 2009, at the age of 77. She was born in Newton County to the Late Travis and Euphie Erma Lunsford Christian. A member of Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church she attended the Harvesters Sunday School Class, played the piano for the Wednesday night church services and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano at Covington Manor and the senior center at Turner Lake. She also enjoyed drawing, sewing, singing and cooking. She dearly loved her family.
