Bob Cantrell

Bob Cantrell, 52, of Covington, passed away Dec. 30 at Emory University Hospital. Mr. Cantrell loved spending time with his family and playing golf and was a softball coach for 15 years. He loved to travel, but his favorite place to be was Daytona Beach. Mr. Cantrell enjoyed going to the movies and his job and was the comedian of the family. He never met a stranger.

Gladys Rogers Dial, 94, of Oxford passed away Jan. 1 at Riverside Health Care Center. Mrs. Dial was preceded in death by her first and second husbands Grady Rogers and Roy Dial, grandson Mike Mask, and her parents Gordon and Etta (Harris) Reynolds. Mrs. Dial was a member of Cornish Mountain Baptist Church for 25 years and was a hard worker, having retired from Bibb Manufacturing Co. with 35 years of service. She was a great Southern cook and will be remembered as a very giving person and a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.

Julie Trachsel McLaughlin

After a 25 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Julie Trachsel McLaughlin, 46, passed away at her home in Conyers on Dec. 20. She was preceded in death by her father Robert Trachsel and is survived by her mother Geri Trachsel of Conyers. Julie was born in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where she attended Pine Crest School, and she later moved to Marietta. She graduated from Wheeler High School and attended Kennesaw College. She was later employed by Norfolk Southern Railroad.

Grady Hassell Sr.

Mr. Grady T. Hassell Sr., 90, of Conyers, passed away Dec. 31. He was preceded in death by his wife Julia Harlin Hassell. Mr. Hassell was a veteran of the United States Navy and served on the USS Albemarle during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Conyers and in their senior church group. He was founder and president of Lawn and Turf and was a former member of the Rockdale Rotary, Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Association of Golf Course Superintendents. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Kathy Sue Howard

Kathy Sue Howard, 63, of Covington, passed away Dec. 30 at Rockdale Medical Center. Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her parents John Henry Boozer and Nancy Maude (Floyd) Boozer. She was an active member of Apostolic Community Church where she taught the primary Sunday School Class for 9 – 12 year-olds for 15 years. Mrs. Howard sang with the church choir as well as performing special musical selections. She loved all children, especially her nieces, nephews, and the children at church. Mrs. Howard also enjoyed camping.
