Mr. Grady Cargile, Jr., age 82, a longtime resident of Covington passed away January 29, 2014 at Abbey Hospice. He was born in the Eudora/ Prospect Community of Jasper County on January 4, 1932 to the late Grady and Ethel Digby Cargile. Mr. Cargile was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a paratrooper during the Korean War. He was retired from General Motors and retired as the head of Quality Control over the Doraville Plant. Mr. Cargile enjoyed woodworking and hunting, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.
Jessica Neeley of Covington passed away Jan. 23, 2014, at the age 23. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She loved her children dearly. She also loved her family and the Lord. A Southern girl at heart, she lived life to the fullest. Jessica was a free spirit and enjoyed all forms of art, including body art. She was a great friend and would defend her friends to the end.
Betty Anne James of Atlanta passed away January 23, 2014, at the age of 80. Mrs. James was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her life revolved around her family, but above all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, and especially liked preparing her baked spaghetti, chicken and dumplings, chocolate pie and her famous homemade biscuits. Matthew Wayne Morris, Emory University professor emeritus of French, passed away January 16, 2014, after a long illness. Born Nov. 11, 1942, in the Cincinnati suburb of Newport, Ky., he grew up in Cartersville, Ga. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, including one year in Vietnam in 1967 and three years aboard the USS Sarsfield. He received his Ph.D. in Romance Languages from the University of Georgia in 1977 and began teaching at Oxford College of Emory University in 1978. Ruth Ricks, of Covington, passed away on Jan. 17, 2014, at the age of 79. Her favorite thing to do was to watch old western movies. She also loved working in her yard, taking care of her flowers. When she was able, she enjoyed fishing, camping and sewing. Mrs. Ricks was preceded in death by her first husband, Aaron Ricks; and parents, James W. and Winfred (Saxon) Bruce.
Susan Wilson, age 54, of Conyers passed away January 13, 2014. She was born to the late George Richard and Wanda Rappaport Wilson in Memphis Tennessee on October 10, 1959. The Wilson family moved to Avondale Estates in 1962 and lived there until moving to Conyers when Susan was 16. She was a 1977 graduate of Rockdale High School. Susan was a cosmetologist and formerly owned and operated Hair Motif in Conyers. She loved to crochet and travel with friends.
Maj. Venon Harrison (Vic) Ison, Ret., of Covington, passed away at the age of 90 on January 13, 2014. Maj. Ison was born Nov. 19, 1923, in Cumberland, Ky. He was the son of the late Nick and Jane Ison.

Elsie Eidson Crawford, 90, of Covington, passed away on January 14, 2014, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. A native of Carrollton, she had called Covington home since 1950. Mrs. Crawford was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Covington. She retired from Grand Union (Colonial Stores) with 37 years of service. Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by her parents, Landis Aquillian and Rebecca McCollum Eidson; her beloved husband, Newell Crawford; and her sister, Ruth Eidson Williams.
Dr. Darrel D. King of Covington went home to be with the Lord January 13, 2014, after a brief battle with leukemia. He was born in 1938, in a farmhouse in Campbell, Mo., to Delbert and Melba (Shaffer) King. The son of a sharecropper, he was educated in a one-room schoolhouse. He often credited his teacher, Althea Malin, with inspiring him to think big and pursue his dreams beyond the Cotton Belt Railroad and the boot heel of Missouri.
MOORE Mr. Fletcher Moore, 97, of Covington died October 8, 2009. He was born to the late W.C. and Willie Grant Moore on October 2, 1912 in Jasper County. Mr. Moore was a lifelong resident of the Newton County area and is the only living member of the Carmel Baptist Church. He operated the Thrift Oil Company Station in Mansfield for many years and drove a school bus in the Mansfield area for 50 years starting when he was 16 years old. Sister Equalla Blue Clark died Sept. 25. The only child of the late Lucille and Monte Blue, she was born in 1943. After the death of her mother, she was raised by her grandmother Julia Clements, affectionately known as "Rye."
