Mrs. Patricia Anne Coyner King, of Covington passed away September 7, 2012 at Newton Medical Center. She was born in Porterdale, GA to the late Wincel and Ellen (Fincher) Johnson. She loved reading, journaling and was a collector of clocks and angels. Mrs. King was preceded in death by her best friend and partner Tommy Cowen.
Kimberly Pippin, of Covington, passed away August 30, 2012. Mrs. Pippin was a member of Gaithers United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending The Church at Covington. She loved spending time with her family and her beloved dog, Zsha Zsha, who passed away with her. Mrs. Pippin was loved by many.
Mrs. Bettye Odum Hays, 74, of Mansfield passed away August 30, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Baxley, Georgia on July 30, 1938 to the late Archibald and Jewel Odum. Mrs. Hays was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was nurse for 24 years at Newton Medical Center, an avid reader, an Atlanta Braves fan and she loved going on vacation especially to the mountains.

Mr. Robert E. "Bob" Peterson, 70, husband of Linda Dunn Peterson, died Aug. 27 at his home. Born in Appleton, Wis., he was a son of Harold E. and Norma D. Killam Peterson. Mr. Peterson was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired as Operations Manager from International Paper. Mrs. Mary Merle Davis, 85, a lifelong resident of Covington passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012. She was born May 30, 1927 in Covington to the late Jesse and Allie Farrow. Mrs. Davis was retired from Oxford Industries where she was employed for a number of years as a seamstress. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and loved spending time with her family and was very close with her great grandson Cody. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Carson Davis.

The daughter of Elwood and Georgia Lassiter, Mrs. Steele was born in Newton County and graduated with honors from Covington High School in 1942. After graduating from the University of Georgia, she began teaching at Porterdale, where she taught fifth and sixth grades for most of her teaching career. Mr. Wayne Loyce McMullen, 69, of Covington, died Aug. 20 at his residence. He was born and raised in Monticello and moved to Covington 40 years ago. His father was Edgar Loyce McMullen. He attended West Georgia College and was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church and loved to hunt and fish. Before retirement, he was a machinist for the Kliklok Company.

Mrs. Katherine W. Alliston, 96, of Oxford passed away Aug. 15, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband Tommy Alliston and her parents George Murza and Ovie Elizabeth (Freeman) Wilson.
Mrs. Alliston was accomplished at crocheting, needlepoint and cross stitching. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and was retired from Belk Department Store in Covington.
