Marcene Phillips, 69, of Covington, passed away Feb. 24, 2014. Marcene enjoyed crocheting, traveling to the beach and the mountains, and playing golf with her husband, Dwight. She had an adventurous, outgoing and encouraging spirit, and was the glue that held her family together. Marcene cherished the time spent with her family, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Papa Mac and Mama Mac.
Gary Carl Martin, 52, of Covington, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014. Gary served in the United States Air Force and he was once employed at Walker Harris Chrysler dealership as a service adviser, until he became disabled.
Howard Spearman Haralson, of Covington, passed away Feb. 24, 2014, at the age of 96. Spearman, as he was known to most, was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Covington for 66 years. In the 1950s he owned and operated his own grocery store, Haralson's Grocery, which was located in town between the bus station and Tri City Cleaners. Spearman closed the grocery store in 1972, to join his wife, Grace, in their family business, Haralson Florist. Together they built a business with a reputation for doing more than expected. Catherine "Lois" Allison passed away Feb. 19, 2014, at her home in Covington. She was 67 years of age. Mrs. Allison loved her family, sports, and watching game shows. In addition to enjoying music and dancing, she loved NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Jr. Mrs. Allison just enjoyed life. Brenda Mae Bruce of Covington passed away Feb. 17, 2014, at the age of 67. Grandma Red, as she was affectionately known by so many, was a lively, spirited lady who loved life, adored her family, and especially cherished her time with her grandchildren. She liked spending time outdoors with the animals and traveling to the mountains. Grandma Red loved the holidays, and always enjoyed cooking for her family. She was born in the Milstead community of Rockdale County to the late Martin and Pearl Coursey Taylor. Mrs. Copeland worked for Bibb Manufacturing for 40 years and was a school bus monitor in Rockdale County for 10 years. Mrs. Margine Tribble, age 78 of Newborn passed away December 17, 2013. She was born in Atlanta to Melvin and Irene Hester who have preceded her in death. Mrs. Tribble worked for many years with Big Apple Grocery Stores around the Atlanta area. She enjoyed gardening, having Bible Studied and she loved music. Due to a lingering illness, he was a resident of Social Circle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the past several years. Nina Mae Burnham, 66, of Porterdale, passed away Dec. 14. She was a lifetime member of Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir and the youth leader since 1980. She loved her church family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. Mrs. Burnham enjoyed cooking and baking and was the owner of Burnie's BBQ in Porterdale. She was preceded in death by her parents, Plinnie Wilson and Eva Mae (Bailey) Bowen, and brothers, Roy and Troy Bowen.
Doris S. Renfroe, 84, of Covington, passed away Dec. 16. She enjoyed her job, at Wal-Mart, working as a greeter; and loved to fish, cook, and go to Braves games. She had a very generous heart, was always willing to do without so that others might have what they needed, and had a special love for children. Ms. Renfroe was preceded in death by her daughters Joyce Renfroe and Carolyn Renfroe.
Ralph Marion Hurndon, of Jonesboro, passed away December 11, 2013, at the age of 83. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and working in his yard, and he loved his dog, FiFi. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Simmon and Eva Mae (Fields) Hurndon.
Stacy W. Lynch of Covington, 53, passed away Dec. 10, 2013. Mr. Lynch had a larger than life personality and was always the life of the party. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan, and enjoyed deer hunting, listening to music, playing his guitar, cooking and spending time with his family and friends. He cherished his family dearly, especially his grandchildren, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his father, Horace Lynch and his brother, Jody Kevin Lynch.

Roger W. Sheridan, 92, of Newborn, passed away Dec. 3. Mr. Sheridan was the current mayor of Newborn, where he held the record of being the oldest mayor in the country and was a retired Army captain, having served in World War II. He holds two records in "Construction and Engineering" in the Guinness Book of World Records and was a manager for international engineering projects in 32 countries.
Anne F. Laxson, 71, of Huntsville, died Dec. 9 at Huntsville Hospital. Mrs. Laxson was preceded in death by sons, Tommy Laxson of Huntsville and Gary Laxson of Hinesville; sisters, Myrtice Singley of Covington, Ga., and Nellie Durden of Walnut Grove, Ga.; and brother William Herring of Covington.
Edna Miller, 62, of Covington, died December 9, 2013, at Dekalb Medical Center. She was born on September 5, 1951, in Macon, to Ray and Emma Lou Miller.
Mike Shropshire, 62, of Covington, passed away Dec, 7. He loved riding his Harley and cooking. He coached Little League football for many years and was a true Falcons and Georgia Bulldogs fan. Mr. Shropshire was always laughing and enjoyed playing his drums. He could play "Wipeout" like no other. He also enjoyed his job and was a dedicated worker. He was preceded in death by his parents William Glynn and Helen Louise (Thomason) Shropshire and nephew Jeffrey Patterson.
Willis Lee "Zip" Clark, 73, of Stover, Mo., passed away Nov. 28 at his home. He was born in 1940, in Waverly, Ill., a son of the late Frank and Alta Nance Clark. He married Marilyn Nagles, and to this union one son, Jeff, was born. They divorced, and he married Elaine Carol Craigmiles in 1965. To this union two sons, Scott and Darian, were born. Elaine preceded her husband in death in 2002.
