Rev. Garland Stone of Oxford passed away June 18, 2014, at the age of 71. Rev. Stone founded and served Full Gospel Holiness Church for 35 years, where he loved his church family as his own. He enjoyed woodworking, going to auctions and visiting Amish country. Rev. Stone was a kind-hearted man who never met a stranger. He was a loving husband, father and papa, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Robert and Frances (Palmer) Stone; and his brothers, Phillip Stone, Kennedy Stone and Larry Stone.
Mr. Ron Blomberg, age 72 of Oxford, formerly of Conyers, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Emory University Hospital. He was born November 24, 1941 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Arthur and Margaret Blomberg who have preceded him in death. Mr. Blomberg had a long and successful career in the mortgage business. He served as the Southeast Regional Manager for SunTrust Mortgage and owned and operated Service First Mortgage for a number of years. Willie Dene Payne, age 83, of Mansfield, passed away June 16, 2014. She enjoyed being outdoors and working in her yard.
George T. Day, Sr., 76, of Covington, passed away June 17, 2014. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, in Oxford. Day Tree Service, established in 1969, was the first tree service in Newton County. Mr. Day owned and operated his tree service while working for Lithonia Lighting for 21 years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors camping and boating. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who cherished his family and treasured his time with them. Mr. Day was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Annie Lois (Woodruff) Day.
Sister Shirley Walker Brooks was born on June 20, 1954 in Conyers, Georgia to the late Mr. & Mrs. Henry (Emma O'dell) Walker. She was the fifth of nine children.
Jeanette Barnes Jackson, age 92, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014 under hospice care in Fayettevill, Georgia. She was born February 6, 1922 to the late Levie E. Barnes and Ruby Thompson Barnes.
Frances Rowland of Covington passed away June 9, 2014 at the age of 84. For 38 years, Mrs. Rowland dedicated herself as a school teacher in Newton, Rockdale and Cobb counties, taking short breaks only to raise her six boys. Her teaching career included reading, science, biology and girl's PE. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, in Covington, where she taught Sunday School for several years and was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School class for 54 years. Billy Joe Queen, Sr., age 71, of Covington, passed away June 8, 2014. While he was physically able, Mr. Queen enjoyed going to church. He loved being outdoors, gardening and doing yardwork. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. Queen was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Howard and Lula (Henry) Queen.
Rev. Franklin D. Kitchens, 80, of Conyers, went to be with the Lord, June 9, 2014. Rev. Kitchens pastored Harmony Baptist Church in Covington and West End Baptist Church in Social Circle. In addition, he also served as an interim pastor for Salem Baptist Church, in Conyers and Mt. Zion Baptist Church, in Oxford. He was a member of Newton Baptist Church, and loved his church families as much as his own family. He enjoyed wood crafts, cooking, gardening and Southern gospel singings. Mildred Crowe Fuller, 72, of Conyers, died Nov. 15. The daughter of the late Lewis R. and Johnnie C. Crowe, she was born in Newton County. Mrs. Fuller was a member of The church of The Lord Jesus Christ in Milstead for over 50 years. Mrs. Fuller was preceded in death by siblings James E. Crowe, Bobby G. Crowe, J. Aslee Corley and Alice P. Chambers.

Barbara Morgan Walsh, of Macon, formally of Covington, passed away Nov. 13 after a brief illness, surrounded by her family. The daughter of the late Willie Lester and Selma Holmes Morgan, she was born in 1933 in Greene County. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Covington where she served on numerous committees. Mrs. Marie Ellison Robbins Tarver died Nov. 6 in Covington. The daughter of Florence and Anderson Ellison, she was born in 1913 in Pike County, Ala. Mrs. Ellison lived in Midway, ala., for most of her live. She was a respected member of the local community and an active member of the Home and Aid Society. She was first married to Col. Mr. James F. "Ted" Neely Sr., 85, a lifelong resident of Covington, died Nov. 11. The son of the late Fred G. and Bamie Dobbs Neely, he was born in 1923 in Dooley County. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during World War II, serving under General Patton. He was a self-employed farmer and had been a member of Shiloh Methodist Church since the 1930s. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary C. Neely and son Allen Neely.

Mr. James A. "Jimmy" Pennington, 69, of Covington, died Nov. 11. The son of the late James Anderson Pennington and Mary Guest Pennington, he was born in 1939 in Fulton County. He worked for the Jasper County Maintenance Department. Mr. Pennington was a member of Zion Baptist Church and enjoyed working on his farm, fishing and hunting.
Surviving are brothers Graham Pennington of Covington, Howard Pennington of Conyers; sister Rose Mary Stephenson of Conyers; several nieces and nephews.
Leon Parish, 78, of Covington, died November 11 at Newton Medical Center. The son of the late Otis A., Sr. and Exie Cunard Parish, he was an avid CB radio operator, enjoyed playing golf and was the co-founder of the Newton County Saddle Club. Mr. Parish loved life and lived it to the fullest. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many.

Mr. Floyd Allen, 76, of Covington, died Nov. 9. Mr. Allen was a member of First United Methodist Church of Covington. He loved to hunt and play golf. Mr. Allen worked for Pennington Seed Company for over 30 years. The son of the late Melvin Allen Sr. and Allie Mills Allen, he was born in 1932 in Newton County.

Bobby Joe Couch, 7, of Covington, died Nov. 7. the son of Joseph and Julie (Rye) Couch, he was born in 2001 in Cochise County, Arizona. Bobby loved playing football with his brother and going to school at Ficquett Elementary School. He was preceded in death by great-grandfather Bobby Crowe of Covington.

Mr. Robert Edwin "Ed" Hill, 86, of Rockmart, died Nov. 6. The son of the late Fletcher Bailey Hill and Bess Cowan Hill, he was born in Newton County in 1922. Mr. Hill was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War II. He was a master election and a member of Second Baptist Church, Rockmart. Mr. Hll was preceded in death by Roy Hill and Thomas Hill.

William J. Macken (Mr. Bill), 65, of Porterdale, lost his battle with cancer Nov. 1. Born in Akron, Ohio, Mr. Macken was a retired stained glass artist.

Ralph Thomas, 83, of Covington, died at St. Mary's Hospital. The son of the late Henry C. and Lilly Mae Jones Thomas, he was born in Jasper County and was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Mr. Thomas was retired from civil service at Ft. Gillem. Mr. Thomas enjoyed mechanics and dearly loved his family.
Surviving are wife Betty Ann Thomas of Covington; sisters Ellene Rosser of Covington, Margret Shaw of Decatur, Rose Fuller of Conyers, Bonnie English of Griffin, Gladis Woodham of Dallas, Evelyn Zimmerman of Restin, Va.; brother James Thomas of Cumming; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. John Ivson Wheeler, 79, a lifelong resident of Covington, died Nov. 5. The son of the late Ira Lee and Ruthie Viola (Daniel) Wheeler, he was born in 1929. Mr. Wheeler proudly served our country in the United States Army, Air Force and Navy. He retired from the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War. Mr. Lenton Nolley died Oct. 19 in Newton County. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Emmett (Minnie Benton) Nolley Sr., he was born in Jasper County in 1920. he was raised and educated in Jasper County. His family moved to Newton County in 1941. He married Ms. Ruby Wingfield, who preceded him in death in 1990. He later married Ms. Ella Ruth Foster.
