Thomas Busbee, age 85 of Mansfield, passed away July 22, 2014. Mr. Busbee was a veteran of the United States Army. He attended Eastridge Community Church, was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed fishing. Mr. Busbee was a wonderful husband and a good father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman James and Carrie Louberta (Middlebrook) Busbee.
Max G. Kilgore of Covington, Georgia, born April 17, 1919, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 19, 2014, at the age of 95. He was born in Palmersville, Tennessee, to John and Charlie Bostic Kilgore who preceded him in death along with his six siblings, Ned, Ralph (Doc), Mary, Dorothy, Annabelle and Sue. Mae Hardman, of Rabun Gap, formerly of Porterdale, Georgia, passed away July 15, 2014. Mae was born November 26, 1925, to Carrie Mae (Lunsford) and William Grady Hardman. She had lived in Rabun County since 1971, where she taught at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School until her retirement. Prior to teaching, Mae was a social worker for Bibb Manufacturing Company for 27 years. She was very active in both of her communities, which she dearly loved. Mrs. Nettie Mae Digby, age 84 of Covington, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. She was born February 7, 1930 in Porterdale to Archie and Minnie Ivey McCullough who have preceded her in death. Mrs. Digby worked at home until her children were grown and then she worked for C.R. Bard for two years and Stanley Tool for 14 years. She was Methodist by faith and a member of Gaither's United Methodist Church. Mrs. Digby loved her family very much; she was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Jesse L. Burgess of Covington passed away July 15, 2014, at the age of 75. Mr. Burgess was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Covington. He was a retired member of the Local No. 72 Plumbers & Pipefitters Union, after 57 years of dedicated service, all while serving as owner and operator of Alcovy Day Lily Farm for 20 years. Additionally, he was involved in the Greater Atlanta Hemerocallis Society and the Rockdale County Genealogical Society. A.L. Crane of Covington, passed away July 16, 2014 at Newton Medical Center. He was 78 years of age at the time of his death. A.L. loved people and never met a stranger. He was always willing to go the extra mile to help anyone who needed him. He will be remembered as a man who loved his family. A.L. was preceded in death by his son, Wade Crane; parents, Alvin M. and Gladys (Segars) Crane; and his former spouse, Joann Covington.
Mark Jeffries, age 41 of Covington, passed away July 15, 2014. Mark was a true Believer who loved the Lord Jesus with all of his heart. He was an accomplished bass fisherman and loved to hunt. He had a great sense of humor, and was a talented cook, guitarist and singer. Mark enjoyed spoiling his nieces and nephews, and he cherished his time with Mary McCullough, the person closest to his heart. He was loved and will be missed by his family and friends. Martha Ann Mahan of Social Circle passed away July 16, 2014, at the age of 81. A very dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Covington and the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class, she was also a member and past president of the Callie Cohen Circle of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Mahan enjoyed traveling and will be remembered for her wonderful cooking.
Jayne Satterfield, 78 of Covington, passed away Wednesday, July 16 at Abbey Hospice. Jayne was born on February 23, 1936 to Charner and Frieda (Seddon) Peacock in Atlanta. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Satterfield was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Orlin R. Satterfield in 2013 and her parents.

When the first season of Harriette Pitner Key's active life was completed on July 10, 2014, she ran expectantly into the open arms of Jesus. George (Stump) Cown, age 70 of Loganville passed away Jan. 30, 2009. Mr. Cown was a longtime member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church and was a member of Grayson United Methodist Church. Mr. Cown graduated from Grayson High in 1956, served in the U.S. Navy for two years and retired from AT&T and C.R. Bard Medical in Covington. After retirement, he became known in the Grayson Community as "Santa" to many children.
Mr. James Perry Atkinson, 65, of Madison, died Jan. 12 at his home. The son of the late Herman and Louise Jones Atkinson, he was born in Morgan County in 1943. Mr. Atkinson served in the United States Navy and later worked in sales of construction supplies. Mr. Atkinson was currently employed by Hallman Wood Products in Eatonton. Mr. Atkinson enjoyed fishing and wood working and restoring antique tractors.
Gracie Lew Whitley of Covington died Jan. 28. The daughter of the late Ernest and Grace Rogers Gober, she was born in 1939 in Covington. Mrs. Whitley was a member of North Covington United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Barnette Whitley.
Mr. Roger L. Smith Sr., 79, of Conyers, died Jan. 21. The son of the late Homer and Ethel Matthews Smith, he was born in Duvall County, Fla., in 1929. Mr. Smith was retired from Eastern Airlines as an inspector and was a member of American Legion Post 77. He was preceded in death by son Roger Smith Jr.
Mrs. Hattie Ricks, 79, a lifelong resident of Newton County, died Jan. 26. The daughter of the late Stafford and Lillian (Evans) Smith, she was born in Newton County in 1929. Mrs. Ricks loved gardening. Mrs. Ricks was preceded in death by her husband James Ricks, daughter Shirley Allen and her parents.
Kenneth Andrew Allan, 65, of Oxford, passed away Jan. 25. Mr. Allan, born in Norwood, Mass., was a resident of Georgia for 15 years and of Oxford for five years. He was preceded in death by parents and two brothers.
Mrs. Sharon Parris Almand, 33, a lifelong resident of Covington and Conyers died Jan. 25. She was born in DeKalb County on Dec. 26, 1975 to John and Marie (McDonald) Parris. Mrs. Almand worked as a teller at BB&T. She enjoyed playing tennis and staying in touch with her family and friends.

Mr. Hulon H. Kitchens, 87, of Conyers, died Jan. 21. He was born in Newton County in 1921. Mr. Kitchens proudly saved our country in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. Mr. Kitchens was a member of Newton Baptist Church. He enjoyed bird hunting and loved his family. Mr. Kitchens was preceded in death by parents Andrew and Minnie (Parker) Kitchens and wife Fairy Cowan Kitchens.
