Marcene Phillips, 69, of Covington, passed away Feb. 24, 2014. Marcene enjoyed crocheting, traveling to the beach and the mountains, and playing golf with her husband, Dwight. She had an adventurous, outgoing and encouraging spirit, and was the glue that held her family together. Marcene cherished the time spent with her family, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Papa Mac and Mama Mac.

Howard Spearman Haralson, of Covington, passed away Feb. 24, 2014, at the age of 96. Spearman, as he was known to most, was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Covington for 66 years. In the 1950s he owned and operated his own grocery store, Haralson's Grocery, which was located in town between the bus station and Tri City Cleaners. Spearman closed the grocery store in 1972, to join his wife, Grace, in their family business, Haralson Florist. Together they built a business with a reputation for doing more than expected. Ina Ellen Tanner, of White Plains, died January 5, 2009, at Athens Regional Medical Center, at the age of 79. Formerly of Covington, Mrs. Tanner had made her home in White Plains for the past 13 years where she was a very active member of Mt. Stephens Baptist Church. She was employed by Walmart for 20 years and after retiring was a very active volunteer for the American Red Cross and Project Linus. Mrs. Tanner was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon A. Sara Ruth Townley, 87, of Covington died Jan. 4. Mrs. Townley was a charter member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church and served as the church pianist for 27 years. She was the daughter of the late Clyde and Edna Reagan Head and the widow of John Roger Townley. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

The daughter of the late Labon Festus Gunn and Annie Lee Ada Preston Gunn, she was born in 1917 in Henry County.
