John W. (Johnny) Dunevent of Porterdale, passed away June 30, 2014, at the age of 87. Seaman Second Class Dunevent proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Porterdale Baptist Church where he faithfully attended Sunday School weekly. In addition, he was a member of the American Legion Post #32, in Covington. Edna Martin Wilson Clemence, 70, died November 4 at St. Mary's Hospice House. Born in 1939 in Dunn, N.C., her mother Pauline Stewart Martin Cooper raised her in Newport News, Va. At age 15, she successfully auditioned for the New York City Rockefeller Rockettes. Her mother would not let her quit school.
