Elizabeth Morehouse Simpson, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, cousin, aunt, great aunt, and friend to so many died Monday, March 17 after an intense bout with cancer that was undetected until nine days before her death.
Mrs. Rose Eve Hoffman Davis, 92, of Rome, Georgia, formerly of Covington, died March 18, 2014. Mrs. Davis was born Nov. 7, 1921, to the late Anson E. and Annie Maude Hoffman in Eden, Fla. She was a member of High Point Baptist Church, and lifelong resident of Covington, until 2008, when she moved to Rome after her husband died. Helen Leone Paty Stamps, age 89¾, passed away March 17 as a result of complications following a fall. Helen attended Duke University for two years, transferring during WWII to Agnes Scott College, where she graduated in 1945. She served as a Navy Cadet Nurse in WWII for 16 months. Her father, Robert Morris Paty, Jr., MD, was Acting Dean of Medicine at Emory and Head of the Emory Hospital. Tiffany Warren, age 21, of Porterdale passed away March 11, 2014. She was born June 22, 1992 in Austell, Georgia and lived there until moving to Covington in 2001. Tiffany graduate from Eastside High School in 2010 and worked as a Manager at Subway Restaurant in Conyers. She loved her friends and enjoyed nothing more than to hang out with them as much as she could. Tiffany was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, granddaughter, niece and friend. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents James and Mary Jane Warren.
James Thomas "Tommy" Gardner, age 78, of Covington, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014. Mr. Gardner was a union carpenter by trade, and he enjoyed hunting and watching NASCAR. He cherished his family, and loved taking care of his sons.
Clara Gaynell Doggett, of Covington, passed away March 8, 2014, at the age of 94. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed cooking, shopping, exploring and spending time with them during the holidays. Harold Lee Stapp Sr., 61, of Porterdale, passed away March 8, 2014, at Newton Medical Center. Mr. Stapp was a faithful member of Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church in Porterdale. He enjoyed playing softball, and will be remembered as a hard worker. Mr. Stapp was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Sara Frances (Loyd) Stapp.
Mr. Archie Thomas Mulkey, age 95, of Jefferson, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014. He was born March 6, 1918, in Bremen, Georgia, a son of the late Elisha Samuel Mulkey and the late Attie Mae Smith Mulkey. Mr. Mulkey was a retired brickmason and was a member of White Plains Baptist Church. Mr. Mulkey was preceded in death by his by his first wife, Lurlene Johnson Mulkey; two brothers; and three sisters.
Sharon Long, of Covington, passed away Feb. 18, 2014, at the age of 72. She enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. Mrs. Long loved her family dearly, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, Leo and Bernice (Larson) Murphy.

Walker Sams Kirkpatrick, 82, of Covington, passed away Dec. 2, 2013. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a member of High Point Baptist Church but often attended Gaithers United Methodist Church in Covington. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen B. Kirkpatrick; parents, Robert and Maggie (Loyd) Kirkpatrick; and his sister, Myrtle Harper.
Sandra Smith, 69, of Mansfield passed away Nov. 30, 2013. Ms. Smith worked 48 years for Yates Insurance Agency as an agent and office manager. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, especially at the beach, and was an avid NASCAR fan. Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Branson Farr and Jessie Dean Smith, grandson James Harley Smith, great-grandson Justin Chase Moon, and sister Betty Faye Smith.

Mrs. Sue Brewer, age 62, of Mansfield passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013. She was born June 7, 1951 in Kelleytown Community of Henry County to the late Charles Albert and Nellie Sue Wilkerson Ellington. Mrs. Brewer enjoyed fishing, going to flea markets, antique stores and shopping. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her husband Joe Brewer.

Earl Elsworth Goddard, 91, of Decatur passed away Nov. 19. He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country as a paratrooper during World War II. Mr. Goddard was of the Southern Baptist faith and cherished his time reading his Bible. He enjoyed meeting new people and talking about horses. Mr. Goddard was a strong, independent man who loved life and his family, especially his wife Mary and his daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents John Sheldon and Rua Mae (Hull) Goddard, his sister Opal and his wife Mary.
James Daryl Ford, age 59, of Mansfield, passed away after a two-and-one-half year battle with cancer.

Margaret Anderson, 64, of Covington, passed away Nov. 2 at home, following a long battle with cancer. Ms. Anderson owned and operated numerous beauty salons in Covington. She had a passion for helping others and often volunteered to assist anyone in need. Ms. Anderson was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie T. and Ella (McCord) Osborn and her brothers, Roy Osborn, Robert Osborn, Clark Osborn and Junior Osborn.
Catherine Thorp, of Covington, died Nov. 24, at The A.G. Rhodes Home -- Cobb. The daughter of the late Lewis Sullivan and Maude Nutting Leach, she was born in 1919, in Jacksonville, Fla. She was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Covington and the Covington Woman's Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family.
Shane Kenny, 34, of Rockdale County, passed away suddenly November 25, 2013. Shane was a 1997 graduate of Rockdale County High School, and lettered in both baseball and football during his high school career. His love for sports led him to coach youth baseball, in Newton and Rockdale counties, and he has influenced the lives of so many while coaching. He enjoyed watching professional and college sports, but most important to him were his children. He was a devoted husband, an exceptional father, and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
