Mrs. Helen Churchill

Helen Churchill age 68, of Mansfield passed away February 1, 2016. She was born January 5, 1948 in Porterdale to the late Adel Jasper and Mary Ellen Boyd Underwood. Mrs. Churchill was a lifelong resident of Newton County and enjoyed doing crafts, traveling when she could, fishing and loved her cat "Blackie". She was preceded in death by her brother; Ray Underwood.

Mrs. Mavis Boyd Walker, age 73, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016. She was born in Vina, Alabama on March 4, 1942 to the late William Harvey and Helen Brown Jones. Mrs. Walker enjoyed sewing, decorating for Christmas and traveling. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Walker was a supervisor at Oxford Manufacturing for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her first husband; Omie Lee Boyd and her second husband; Gary Walker.

Edna Dunevant Wilson

Edna Dunevant Wilson of Covington passed away January 28, 2016, at the age of 95. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Porterdale Baptist Church where she enjoyed worship and fellowship with her church family. She retired from Covington Molding after more than 20 years of service. Famous for her biscuits, she enjoyed cooking and family gatherings under the old oak tree. In her previous years, she and her husband loved traveling together. Mrs. Wilson's greatest joy was working in her yard. Preceding her in death were her husband, Judson Wilson; parents, Sam and Susie Dunevant; and six siblings.

Willie Gordon Downing

Willie Gordon Downing died peacefully at his home on January 21, 2016, at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Downing; mother, Emma Prince Downing; sister, Pauline Downing; sister, Ollie Peacock. His many friends knew him as "Bud" Downing. Bud was a master builder by trade. He operated a construction firm with his father until his father's death in 1967. After the death of his father, he and his brother-in-law, Z.B. Peacock, operated Peacock Construction Co. until the late 1990's.

Deanna Franklin of Covington, passed away January 24, 2016, at the age of 52. Deanna was a faithful member of Canaan Baptist Church and loved her church family dearly. She was a 1611 KJV Bible-believing, missions-minded Christian lady who loved presenting the Gospel and sharing Christ with others. She was a dedicated employee of AT&T for 31 years. Deanna always put others before herself, and will undoubtedly be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her father, Doyle Hensdill.

Martha Reynolds Cole, 78, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away after a long fight with Alzheimer's disease Monday, January 18, 2016. Born and raised in Covington to Everett and Lavada Reynolds, Martha graduated from Newton County High School. She later met her first husband Robert Charles Bayliss and put down roots in St. Petersburg, Florida. Martha was a devoted mother and loved her four boys - the "Bayliss Boys" - Rob (Jan), Matt (Christine), Joe (Johanna) and Mitch. She was also crazy about her grandkids, Ethan, Joe Jr., Grace and Gage.
