Mrs. Mildred L. Costley, age 96, of Covington passed away Friday, February 7, 2014. She was born January 19, 1918 in Jasper County to the late Edgar and Mava Kitchens Cunard. Mrs. Costley moved to Covington around 1935 and met her husband while working as a waitress at a restaurant located on the square. Not long after moving to Covington she became a member of the First Baptist Church and is currently the third oldest member. She was very active in her church. John Hollis Lawrence, age 93, who counted his years leading the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce as among the most fulfilling of his life, died peacefully on Feb. 4, 2014, in Atlanta.
William C. English Jr., age 65, of Oxford, born on March 21, 1948, passed away on January 30, 2014, from complications of diabetes. Bill was the son of the late William C. and Gertrude English, also of Oxford. Bill served in the United States Army in Vietnam in the late 1960s. He loved collecting arrowheads and unusual rocks. He was an avid woodworker and outdoorsman and loved golf.

Mrs. Cook was born on Jan. 31, 1938, in Georgetown, Ky., to the late John R. and Alice Jones. Mrs. Cook was a member of Mt. Wynelle Dobson Wyatt, 97, of Covington, went home to be with the Lord, Feb. 5, 2014. Nannie, as she was affectionately called by most, was born in Cumming, Ga., to the late H.P. and Emma (Strown) Glover, and was the oldest of eight children. She married Lonnie H. Dobson in 1935, and they had three children, Ruel, Sandra and Herb. Cora Annelle Singley, age 88, of Monroe, died on February 2, 2014. She was born in Walton County on Dec. 10, 1925, to the late Mollie Cheek Wheelis and the late George Wheelis. Raymond Lee Mathis of Covington, passed away Jan. 30, 2014, at the age of 60. Raymond was a hard-working man who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. He loved life, never let anything get him down, had a great sense of humor and was always making people laugh. Raymond adored his family, enjoyed spoiling his children, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and going fishing. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ellis Grover and Marie (Woodard) Mathis.
Mr. Grady Cargile, Jr., age 82, a longtime resident of Covington passed away January 29, 2014 at Abbey Hospice. He was born in the Eudora/ Prospect Community of Jasper County on January 4, 1932 to the late Grady and Ethel Digby Cargile. Mr. Cargile was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a paratrooper during the Korean War. He was retired from General Motors and retired as the head of Quality Control over the Doraville Plant. Mr. Cargile enjoyed woodworking and hunting, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.
Jessica Neeley of Covington passed away Jan. 23, 2014, at the age 23. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She loved her children dearly. She also loved her family and the Lord. A Southern girl at heart, she lived life to the fullest. Jessica was a free spirit and enjoyed all forms of art, including body art. She was a great friend and would defend her friends to the end.
Betty Anne James of Atlanta passed away January 23, 2014, at the age of 80. Mrs. James was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her life revolved around her family, but above all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, and especially liked preparing her baked spaghetti, chicken and dumplings, chocolate pie and her famous homemade biscuits. Mike Shropshire, 62, of Covington, passed away Dec, 7. He loved riding his Harley and cooking. He coached Little League football for many years and was a true Falcons and Georgia Bulldogs fan. Mr. Shropshire was always laughing and enjoyed playing his drums. He could play "Wipeout" like no other. He also enjoyed his job and was a dedicated worker. He was preceded in death by his parents William Glynn and Helen Louise (Thomason) Shropshire and nephew Jeffrey Patterson.
Willis Lee "Zip" Clark, 73, of Stover, Mo., passed away Nov. 28 at his home. He was born in 1940, in Waverly, Ill., a son of the late Frank and Alta Nance Clark. He married Marilyn Nagles, and to this union one son, Jeff, was born. They divorced, and he married Elaine Carol Craigmiles in 1965. To this union two sons, Scott and Darian, were born. Elaine preceded her husband in death in 2002.
Patricia Ann Knight of Covington died Thursday, December 5, 2013. She was born on July 1, 1947, in Greenville, S.C., to Perry Burns and Martha Finley Carson. She was a member of Central Community Church.
Charles Allen "Charlie" Lemaster, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at the age of 31. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and enjoyed playing softball, watching his son play baseball, riding his four-wheeler, but most of all, he loved spending time with this children.

Mrs. Louise Shropshire, 89, of Covington passed away Dec. 4, at the age of 89. Mrs. Shropshire was considered a good friend by many people. She cherished her family dearly and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lanny Moody of Covington, 54, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died suddenly Dec. 3. Mr. Moody was born in Covington in 1959. He had many passions in life, one of which was sharing the gospel and bringing people to Christ. Through his outgoing personality and his comedic skills, he demonstrated God's love through fun and laughter and was able to touch so many lives through his ministry, Upside Down Comedy.

Walker Sams Kirkpatrick, 82, of Covington, passed away Dec. 2, 2013. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a member of High Point Baptist Church but often attended Gaithers United Methodist Church in Covington. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen B. Kirkpatrick; parents, Robert and Maggie (Loyd) Kirkpatrick; and his sister, Myrtle Harper.
Sandra Smith, 69, of Mansfield passed away Nov. 30, 2013. Ms. Smith worked 48 years for Yates Insurance Agency as an agent and office manager. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, especially at the beach, and was an avid NASCAR fan. Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Branson Farr and Jessie Dean Smith, grandson James Harley Smith, great-grandson Justin Chase Moon, and sister Betty Faye Smith.

Mrs. Brewer enjoyed fishing, going to flea markets, antique stores and shopping. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her husband Joe Brewer.
